R56 Window got smashed :(
Window got smashed :(
So...someone smashed the driver side window in the garage at work to take a second gen iPod nano!!!
I am beyond pissed right now. I need to have this fixed asap because it's my only car.
I have a couple of questions - I called the ins co (Progressive) right away to report but said I would call back to file the claim as I was dealing with the security guys for the building, but Progressive said they would likely not be able to get someone on the claim until Monday. I can't wait till Monday. I'm thinking of taking it to the body shop for the dealer I use tomorrow (there is some damage to the door panel as well from the glass) and hope that they can deal with the insurance independently. This would qualify as a non-moving violation, right? Thankfully, thanks to the advice of someone in this forum, about 6 months ago I changed my deductible to $100 so that won't be so bad.
Question - will Progressive reimburse me for the iPod?
Also, will they cover the cost of getting the new window tinted?
Thanks guys and if you have any suggestions as to how to best handle this - I'm all ears.

Thy probably won't reimburse you for the tint, as non-OEM parts (including tint) isn't covered by your policy unless you add it as a rider. They might reimburse your iPod, if you can provide a receipt for how much you bought it for. Good luck with this one, hoping the best for you and your MINI.
Thanks! I just called and filed the claim. The options they are giving me are to either arrange for a rental through them until I can speak to a claims adjuster on Monday or take it to the dealer to get fixed, pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed. I honestly do not want to pay out of pocket when I pay for full coverage on this policy. I also hate to run the risk of further damage to the car by leaving it parked in the garage at home (pretty safe but you never know).
I wouldn't mind paying out of pocket for it just for the peace of mind if the likelihood is high that the insurance company will reimburse me for all of it.
What do you guys think?
TIA

I'm suprised that you can't speak to a claims adjuster until Monday. Not Acceptible! I guess accidents only happen M-F at Progressive. Sounds like you need to tape up your window with a clear trash bag until this gets settled. Best of luck.
Words of warning from "been there, had that done to me". I had AAA, and they sent a glass shop out to do the replacement in front of my house, same day, although not a weekend. What they could not fix on-site was the regulator (winding mechanism, or what ever you call it). That needed an in-shop fix with the needed parts, which, of course, they didn't think they'd need. Make sure the window goes up and down w/out any noises!
And, the brief case, and two pair of glasses, and business papers, were total loss. I was told that would be covered (or not, in this case) by home-owners insurance.
Good luck with your repairs.

Call your local MINI Dealer, find out who they use. As long as the glass company charges the standard rates, it can probably be done at the dealership. That way any parts they may need are only a few steps away.
Also, the contents of your car is covered but there is most likely a deductable of 500 dollars for theft. Meaning they will replace the value of items after reaching that threshold.
Did the garage where your MINI was parked record the theft with their security cameras ?

The garage only has cameras in select places (i.e., entrance/exit and few spots on top floor). So no, the theft was not recorded.
I am going to call the collision center for the dealer I use (Lauderdale MINI) as soon as they open and speak to them to see if I can arrange for a rental from them and they can have the car until Monday when the insurance adjuster gets involved but at least, it'll be out of my hands and likely to get fixed right.
I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling this process will involve some fighting with the insurance company.
Thanks a lot everyone. I will update this thread with any progress I make.
