windshield panel came off

I live in Los Angeles and decided to drive the mini up San Francisco this past weekend. Driving around 80 mph around 11PM, we heard something popped! So my friend rolled down her window and noticed that the right (windshield pillar) panel came off!

The bad thing was it also dinged the door :( My car is not even 2 months old. How can this happened? Too much wind? I went to the dealership today and they would fix and replace the panel without charge. However, they would not fix the ding because they said it could have been caused by anything -_-

This seriously pisses me off. But anyway, anybody has had this happened to you?

That sucks man. Those pieces are held in pretty tightly, its hard to beleive one just popped off for no reason. I know when I got my windsheild replaced the guy had a tough time getting that part off to gain access to the crack.

Strange that it would ding the side, but anything's possible...

I think I'd push hard to get the ding fixed.
