R56 Anybody else have this problem?
People will make comments no matter what car you drive; if you drive an old POS car people will make comments about how crappy it is, if you drive a $60K BMW people will make comments about how you are a rich jerk(I can't believe some of the looks/comments I got when I had a BMW Z4 Coupe Loaner Car, being 23 I guess I look to young to be driving it), if you drive a Honda people will say you drive a boring car, and so on; everyone has an opinion about everything and more and more its seems as though people seem to think that everyone else cares what it is.
If you like it then that is all that matters; you can never please all the random jerks so don't start trying to.

One thing I've noticed consistently in 2+ years is that many females (young and old) think it's cute. I think stripes would help the manly image (I don't have 'em myself). I only had one encounter with a young hotrod type on a 2 lane road and I left him way back there. When he finally caught up he said "wanna race"? I said "you got anything else to drive?" .

The ULTIMATE is the quiet look back and the one word response... It will totally shut anybody up.
I was walking out to my MINI and heard a bunch of idiots bashing my car and saying that "some ugly @$$ loser must drive this piece of crap. bla bla bla." Mind you I was out to dinner so I was dressed nice and felt like a million bucks, high heels and all. Course saw me walk out, open up the door, "Some loser huh?" got in and zipped off.
The dropped jaws and voiceless mouthes... It felt great.
Lesson. Don't let some idiot who knows nothing about cars make you feel stupid.
P.S. Def put on a stripe! Pretty innexpensive way of making your MINI look more aggressive! Maybe putting in an intake will give you more of a growl you might like too...
Either way. You're 16 and you own a MINI. That's pretty awesome.

I think teenagers are much more insecure than the rest of us and thus tend to make more comments to other teenagers. I think that if you were a teenager you could drive a Mini, Camaro, Truck, etc ..and you'd get comments from someone about you and/or your car. I drove a Jeep in high school and got s@@t about it not being lifted high enough, or it not being as tough as a truck, etc.. The teenage years are all about putting other people down to make yourself feel better ...unfortunately some people don't ever outgrow that.
My advice is to ignore people when they make negative comments ...don't even give them the time of day. They aren't worth it.

Had a guy come into my job the other day. He has a 2005 Jeep. Now idk about you guys but I hear nothing but good things about Jeeps...stock or otherwise. He has the straight six, six speed, 4wd. That is a nice freakin' Jeep regardless of the lift or drop or anything. That straight six will run 250k before it shuts down with simple maintenance and kudos to any 18yo that can even drive a stick.
Now, I know these things...but that ******* with a 1997 Toyota pickup with $400 tires and a 45 foot lift who made fun of him...he's gonna find out right quick how his automatic, 4 cylinder, pos truck is more trouble than it's worth.
I get the "you could have had ____ for 25 grand" almost every single day! It seems to be that they always fill in the blank with either a Subaru or a VW, the common (*cough* BORING *cough*) teenage cars.
I get "5.0 Mustang" "New Mustang" "Used Vette" etc etc.
Listen to all the wiser men and women who have already replied here and just forgive all the ignorance.
I'm in my 20s and dropped an old muscle car that I drove for years like a hot potato for a MCS and don't feel like any less of a (straight) man, no matter how hard the people around try to convince me.

Wow I have never gotten a rude remark or weird look. I normally come out and people are pointing at my car loving it. I have even walked out numerous times to see hand prints all over the windows from some wanting to see the inside.
This weekend I was driving to charlotte and someone even got right on my bumper to take a picture while going down 85.

there were some big construction guys at my office a few weeks ago. i pulled in an got out. 3 come over. i expected a joke or something but the one told me he laughed and then another guy on the crew told him about how the S is very serious. the came over in awe and wanted to see it. it was pretty funny i thought.
the other guy's like, "is it really that fast", his friend said something back about it being more like a "porsh" than a mini...so i just smiled and nodded haha

I got crap from people I know as well. I just have them come for a ride with me and tell me if they still feel the same.
Yet as being a young 16 year old and with a new mini cooper keys in hand. I was wondering if I am just not the only one who gets S**t talked to? Yet like some people will do while they are driving and dont know it, but as the other day my friend and I went to the store to pick something up. As we are walking out we see two white trash type kids. (Not being racial!) Yet when we get in the car and start up and back out. All of a sudden we hear "Your cars gay!". We were like wtf, and gave him the finger and drove off fast! Does anybody else have this problem with people talking so much crap they cannot back up?
I love all these different come backs. One of my employees is always making fun of my car. When he does I just ask him where is his car. He doesn't have one. He just walks away with his tail between his legs and doesn't bring it up for a week or so. Other than that i don't get much from random people. I'm covered in tattoos and have my earlobes stretched so most people are more interested in that or just don't want to even talk to me because i'm probably a "scary" person. i'm actually the nicest guy in the world and when people do come up and ask me about my car i'm more than welcome to let them look and even sit ing it. and yes girls of all ages LOVE the MINI.
The only bad look I got was from another MINI driver.
I was at a light. A guy of similar age pulled up beside me in an older R53 in the exact same colour as mine. I caught him looking over, sneering and shaking his head. WTH?

some of them R53 guys are a bit jealous
even tho they have a proper stereo and that supercharger whine.
Most of my friends think my car is pretty gay.
I'm not sure why. It seems like people think the Miata and the Mini are "gay". I'm always like "WTF". They both are extraordinary vehicles, far more fun than most other cars. The only thing I can think of is that they are both small cars. Maybe in most peoples' minds small cars -> gay?
Is it a small ***** syndrome thing?

I've had the R56 for about 3 months and I've had 7 (yes, i keep court
) cool compliments. The best one is from a guy at the post office; he said my car looks like a classic/modern James Bond car... Nice.
I also get great compliments from people who've seen The Italian Job movie
