R56 Engine noise after wash?
Engine noise after wash?
Has anyone noticed funny engine noise after a wash?
It almost sounds like cold engine noise everyone is talking about. I only have 1400 miles on my 09 and when I started the car next morning after the first wash, it goes "tick tick tick....". After the car warms up, it goes away. So yesterday when I washed the car, I was careful not to spray water directly into the air scoop/front of the car. This morning I hear the same noise..."tick tick tick" diesel like noise.

That's the perfect way to cause "cold start chatter". If you started your car and moved it say from the garage to the driveway and then shut it down then restart it again after the wash it makes that sound because the engine didn't warm up enough and the oil didn't circulate enough. If you moved it back into the garage and shut down until morning it would do it again in the morning. Mine does it everytime I move it a short distance not giving the engine enough time to fully warm up. Normal? No, but try telling that to Mini...

If it is the cold start problem, you need to get it fixed. Damage is done every time it happens. Eventually, it can eat your engine. See these threads:

I guess I or the dealer can recreate this issue then? I start the car then turn it off immediately then turn it back on?
I'll visit the dealer when the noise is there eveytime i start the car. My engine is pretty quiet now...
