Today was my first drive since the tire rotation and I had to reset the TPMS even before I started to drive. Guess it knew the tires were in a different location.

Unless you had a balance problem before there should be no balance problem just from moveing them to a different area of the car.
Ditto.

I went to NTB and got them rotated and balanced for $25.

My dealer did a "motoring service" for me last week for around $50, it included: tire rotation, check/adjust pressures, top off all fluids and a full check-over. I had 9k miles and my service indicator is still showing 10k until the first required service, so I was happy to have them give it a once over and make sure everything looks ok. They also replaced my wipers under maintenance. They acknowledge that MINI does not specifically recommend tire rotations, but they suggest it as a way to increase the life of the tires.

Dealer Service??

When my MINI was in for it's 1st service, the dealer rotated and "adjusted" tire pressures ($40). Checked pressures later and they had been over inflated 4-7 PSI! Be paranoid, double check everything a dealer does starting with oil overfills.
Dwight

PS: I have a digital gauge that reads to 0.1 PSI.

I just recently brought my car in for its first year visit to Morristown Mini in NJ. They changed my oil ( 6k mi on car ) rotated tires , new winshield wiper blades . All under warranty no charge. Offer free car wash also . In the future I will skip that .

And a good friend of mine who works for Bridgestone says the company advises tire rotation every 6000 miles, and not only front to back but the back tires should go to the opposite front wheel, front tires directly to the rear. Everyone has their own idea. I've swapped mine as Bridgestone advises but haven't put enough miles on them yet to determine the results. There is no difference in handling.
