I realized that sometimes I have $1200 worth of electronic stuff in my car (if I had to buy it all again): new Blackberry, 3 year old iPod 5g, lowend TomTom, digicam (an old Elph) and a lowend radar detector. The phone I always take with me but the rest is there for the thief (only ipod in plain sight).

No problems. It is felt covered and the short ipod cord is folded over and keeps things wedged in there pretty well.

I typically leave it in the net on the passenger side foot well. Black iPod on black interior with dark window tint. I've tried looking in from the outside, and it's hard to see. Can't be seen at all from the driver side window as it's up against the other side of the foot well. Still.. it's too hot to leave it in there at all times. I'm in Florida. My old iPod got cooked in my glove box that way.

My MINI got the service recall to install the Ipod cubby. So, I had the dealer put in the factory ipod connecter, and bought a used Ipod Nano from my nephew. It works well, the Nano hides in the cubby and charges wilst plugged in.

Ended up installing a new Blaupunkt radio in the Lotus, so the Nano works there now as well!

Not to hijack the thread, has anyone had the ipod lock up while connected to the car? I've had it happen several times. The ipod will not do anything, won't turn off and when plugged in back into the car the car doesn't recognize it. Once the ipod times out, I have to recharge it in the house, and it will then work back in the car.

Did you try resetting the iPod? I've had iPods lock up occasionally, but you can reset them. I've only once had an iPod lock up so hard you couldn't reset it.

I'm with grondahl - I just leave in that little net pouch on the passenger side of the console. You can't see the wires at all really, so you can leave it plugged in (I hate plugging the Y cable in, what a pain), the iPod is secure and barely visible.
