Everyone has different opinions, go with what you like. Personally I think it looks "ricey," but my opinion doesn't really matter... it is your car.

I think that will depend on the dye used, and the thickness of the anodized layer. If it is hard anodized with a dye that holds up to UV well, it might not be so bad. However, the dual set of holes makes me think it is a cheap wheel, so yea, beware...

Those holes will mean that the MINI's hub shows through. So, you will probably have to paint the hub black.

I don't think a ricer would be caught dead with those wheels. I can't decide whether they are Ghetto or Trailer Park Trash. I'm leaning towards Trailer Park.

But back to thread. It looks good, but I'm not sure how they will look in the long run. Some anodizing tends to fade after some time. Some people are looking for the burnt titanium look. Sort of a burned rainbow like shine. I've seen those on rims and they look cool. Not my cup o tea though.
GWAD - I never thought I'd live to see the day . . . . . that's just putrid.
OP, Go for it. I concur, it's not my cup o' tea either, but it's your car, and your decision.

I like the rims a lot.

I'm not sure I would use words like "rice" and "ricey" to describe mods to a vehicle though. I find that borderline derogatory even as a caucasian male. I know no offence is mean't so... not a big deal. I felt the need to mention it though. I felt convicted!

Maybe if you don't go the route of the anodized finish you would consider something with a machined lip? I often find that to be very eye catching.

id guess they would look as bright as others out there

biggest difference id say is that they might actually match the Mini, unlike the above

agreed, and I AM asian it never ceases to amaze me how the users on this site use that term

the wheels look cool.

i would think that such an aggressive or eye catching wheel would garner a certain style or look though. car would look strange or wheels would look out of place if you ran these on OEM springs.

Why not get a plain black roof grapfic without the graphic. Then you could always go back top white if you wanted to.

That's probably the best suggestion I've heard yet. I've thought about it before but wasn't sure if I could get a quality graphic on it to make it fit perfect.

I'll look into it.

Thanks,

Mark

Mike at AC made my graphic on solid black which wraps and covers the entire roof. Once I had it on I realized that if I ever wanted to go fron MY/B to MY/W I could with no problem and get an entirely new look. AC makes a great product so that is where I wouild look.

Jim,

Thanks, I will call them day after tomorrow. Tomorrow, the dealer is going to see if I can squeeze into a Mellow Yellow JCW. if that doesn't work, I guess I'm staying where I am.

Thanks again,

Mark

Glnr,

My apologies if that term offended you but I'm not the one who portrayed it. The Asians are the ones who started the fart cans, big tachs, flashy paintjobs and NAWS

The fact that they associate Asians with rice is no more belittling than assuming because I'm Italian that I automatically drive an Iroc Camaro and have a hundred gold chains around my neck.

If I were you and really wanted to pitch a fit (sorry, hope I didn't insult any southerners), I'd call up the makers of Tokyo Drift or The Fast and Furious.

Perhaps they could get a bunch of white crackers to drive instead.

So, in parting, it wasn't meant as an insult, it's simply a over-used term that I use to the young generation that installs NOS, uses fart cans for exhaust tips and places a HUGE tach on an automatic.... regardless of race.

Meh, I'm asian and I have no problem with the term ricey. Some people just need to lighten up, imo.

BTW after seeing both the BMW and Mazda 3 with the blue lip I think it looks like garbage on the BMW, and I think it would look bad on the Cooper too. Ironically enough the blue polished lip looks more appropriate for the Japanese Mazda 3 than the Euro BMW. Does that make the rim ricey? Maybe not, but it sure makes the Bimmer look cheap. Just my 2 cents.

Or maybe I don't think ricey is a term that was meant to be spoken with any malice in this case, just like the OP.

I'm asian, I'm not offended by it, I'm not sure what the big deal is *shrugs*

so ricey refers to cheap and gaudy, craptastic taste, low quality, no thought for any aesthetic.
and the ricers are those that follow those descriptions.
and ricers used to be asian kids but now theyre all young people that subscribe to the above style.

i get it now. we're not ricers... just the "other" asians and the "other" young people.

glnr13-- I think a lot of ppl use terms like that without knowing "why" they are saying it exactly. For example, when people (and some of my friends!) refer to things as being "gay" I really want to ask them: "Is that car homosexual? What are you saying exactly?" ( I find that term horribly offensive and not at all progressive or indicative of the fact that it is 2009 here people!)

As for the "rice/ricey/ricer" issue. I would like to think that nobody on this forum would intend to be rude. It is a term that gets tossed around on car forums and... like I said-- ppl just generally don't give the term or it's origins much thought.

Having said that, I generally don't have a problem letting ppl know in a polite way that I find some terms offensive, and that other people might as well. I'm pretty certain nobody here mean't to be cruel.

OC those rims look so ricey I want to rush out and buy 1) as many Sedoku puzzle books as possible, and 2) put Hello Kitty stickers on my piano's flight case.

They can both be ricey

Not a fan of the wheels, but your car, your money, etc etc etc.

its not meant to belittle anyones herratige, nor is the term gay. its just a harmless slang word that a very small amount of uptite people seem to get bent out of shape over.

I even joke with a gay male friend of mine that him having a turbo pt cruiser is "gay" and all he says in return is, so whats your point. with a smile i might add. i think to many peopole are just way to sensitive nowadays.

I see the problem as there is no word to replace the term "rice" ect. I mean it doesn't really or at least shouldn't have anything to do with race. At the same time it does. But it also doesn't mean gaudy, or cheap, it is kind of like a style (or lack there of depending on who you ask). We could be innovative here and come up with a new term that means the same thing and won't have the possibility of offending our fellow Motorers.

OP...I think if you used these but did not have several other "loud," "overwhelming," or "cheap" mods they will not look bad. I am not saying these are loud, overwhelming, or cheap, but that look you fear is a result of several un-matching and mass marketed parts.

Guys,

Thanks for the advice but as of tonight, it doesn't matter.... I traded the car in for a yellow mellow JCW.

Thanks.

I believe cars of all types can be "ricey." I thought RICE was an acronym for Race-Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement... I've seen horribly overdone Mustangs and Challengers that were considered "cool," but if you put the same things on a Civic, it's rice....

It doesn't make sense to me.

There may be an acronym that works but the word originally was intended to represent the race of the person who was typically making these cosmetic enhancements, and where the parts were made.
