Switched power

I would like to add a 110VAC inverter under the passenger seat of my '09 MCS. I had done this to my previous car and found the AC outlet invaluable. I'm looking for the best place to get switched 12V power (on when ignition is on), but don't know the best place. Is taking off the console and getting to the back of the cigarette lighter the easiest way?

Don't forget about the outlet in the boot. If you don't use it, you could jump off that spot and run it over to beneath the passenger seat. Then you've still got the outlet up front that can be used.

I would remove the panel and solder wires to the rear of the socket itself, leaving nothing plugged in. I haven't tried anything yet, but is it easy to get the panels off and then run wires under the carpet?

Recalling what I went through to get my speakers installed, for the boot socket, it's easy to get to the rear of that, plus the carpet in the boot and rear seats are easy to remove, but the carpet between the rear seats and the front seats I'm not sure about.

How much power do you want to draw from the 110 V inverter. I believe that if you want anything over 5 amps, you have to have a direct lead from the battery. The 12 V socket is fine for the small inverters only, perhaps as mentioned the rear is easier.

If you don't want to cut into the wiring there is this loom that plugs into the front cig lighter wiring.

Thanks! I don't think I'll usually use more than 5A (50W or so).
