I would be more excited if they went smaller and simpler instead of bigger. It looks uncomfortable as a regular car.

I would buy this in a heartbeat, although I don't think the back doors need to be quite so long - - A MINI 5-door the size of a Honda Fit but lower and sportier would be a shoo in for a replacement of my current MINI

MINI's not forcing anyone to buy one.

I think it'd be a good addition to the MINI lineup (better than that mammoth crossover thing, anyways). Would broaden the appeal to a lot more people who need to use rear seats somewhat regularly/aren't willing to downsize to a car as small as the 3-door. It's still fairly small (shorter than the 1-Series and Golf) as there's not much room behind the rear seats.

The rear doors aren't that long... it's the black wheel arches that reduce the amount of sheet metal that make it look longer.

There's already a five door MINI, it's called a Clubman.

FWIW, I'm not sure I like the one pictured above. I would need to see it in person before deciding for sure, though.

As a Clubman owner, I think MINI is quietly backpedaling on the "quirky" Clubman concept and probably realizing that what most people would like to have (In terms of a more practical MINI) is 4 full doors and a hatch instead of a rear side Clubdoor and rear barn doors.

I love the Clubman, but if MINI makes this one right, this likely be my next MINI.

Yes it is a five door but not in this "new" idea. It seems to me the Clubman is not selling as briskly as MINI had hoped for and they are simply backpedaling on the quirky Clubman concept. I would not be surprised that this new "Active" vehicle is really Clubman v2.0 under wraps...

Personally, I still LOVE the barn doors. Just wish I had four real doors also... So I'll sign up for the 6-door variant.

I too prefer the barn doors over a single piece hatch. But I think MINI's biggest mistake was not to offer 2 rear doors on the Clubman since the get go. Their arrogance is biting them on the butt very hard as we speak...

Same conversation is going on over at Motoringfile:

If launched, would it replace the clubman?

It's funny that this thread popped up the day before MotoringFILE posted an article about the MINI SpaceBox being a 5 door PAV (think 5 series Gran Turismo) with a hatchback.

I think a design like this would definitely do better than the Clubman.
The roofline looks way better!

I just think the current Clubman does not stand a chance if this new model is introduced.

I don't think MINI can afford to sustain what will become an odd "niche" model.

MINI is clearly backpedaling on the current Clubman. The market has spoken I guess.

Hmm...I'd have to look at the actual size measurements. I wish Mini would stay, well...Mini. Then again, it's hard to tell how large or small something is from just a photograph. Perhaps a side-by-side Mini vs. Mini Sedan picture would give a better comparison?
