It's a dead Mickey, he's on his side.
I think he's talking about the aftermarket gauges that go around the factory speedometer.

Too bad you couldn't get the duct tape off of your eyes when they let you sit in the car before buying it. It must have been a real disappointment when you saw what you had bought.

I much prefer my chrono gauges to the look of the 2nd generation center speedo.

I prefer the Chrono Pack to the center speedometer in *either* generation. I know it's a tradition and an homage to the original Mini, but I couldn't get past MINI using that vast expanse of dash real estate just for a speedometer.

I've grown quite fond of the form and function of the R56 speedo....not that I didn't like the previous one, though. They did things a bit different (funtion, dash config)...but in that context, yes, I think it makes sense and looks like it belongs.

Micky Mouse or no...if one can cleanly mount some meaningful gauges in a useful spot, I say that's great.

I actually like the guages in our R56's. They have a "cute" factor for sure, but I think they look great. When I get in my Porsche the guages are definitely much more aggresive and look more serious. I think every car has a different look and so do their guages. The Mini is unique, it's guages should be unique as well ...and thankfully they are. (just my 2cents).

ehh.

stock, the gauge options suck.

aftermarket's nice since they give relevant info..

i've gotten over the huge speedo, it surprises me when someone sits in the car and is like "woah speedo!"

i don't even realize it's there to tell you the truth.

The nice thing about the Center mount speedo I found out about while following my friends 2003 Cooper in a Mercedes Sprinter Van. From where I sat I could use her speedometer to figure out how fast I was going.

Oh I like the stock gauges including the giant speedo. Im talking about the people that put a gauge on either side of the tac. One gauge on one side looks good. And its not like you cant mount them elswhere.

There's a place on NAM somewhere that does replacement vinyl faces for the gauges - in the right color (or pattern) that could improve things. I think the big central speedo is stupid and useless, but that's a minor gripe in a car I love.

Why would you want to mount the elsewhere? Thats right were they need to be, easy to read, out of the way and not blocking anything else.

i have one mounted next to my tac but only one. i have one mounted elswhere i can see it when i need to. what gauges are you going to need to look at all the time? boost and maybe air/fuel if your car is moded enough. is it really worth connivence when it looks ridiculous?

that looks good to the singe pod on one side and the duel on the other. I just wanted to know if anyone besides me thinks having one gauge on either side of the tac looks tacky

I have used A pillar gauge holders in the past but on the Mini it is a little more cramped. Were did you install the second gauge on yours?

Well two disadvantages about the large center speedo:

1. When I was pulled over for speeding and clained 'I didn;t realize how fast I was going', the officer replied how could you NOT know with a huge speedometer in the middle of the car.

2. My wife is constantly monitoring my speed. 'Slow down!' is a constant phrase heard from my passenger seat. That's why we usually take her SportTrac on family outings!
