The CTS is (amazing! incredible! unprecedented! as it may seem to some in this thread) a very good driving car, particularly within its class of entry level luxury sedans, and particularly if equipped with the right suspension package and the manual gearbox. It is MORE than competitive with the current e90, which apart from its botched exterior styling and cheap and flimsy interior, is quite a bore to drive even compared with the previous e46. As for the e92 specifically, it's an extraordinarily capable car but weight distribution is not the only thing that factors into a great handling car (and I say this as a Miata owner with the famed 50/50 weight distribution +/- 0.2%). You know what else factors into a great handling car? WEIGHT (once again, I say this as a Miata owner at 2300lb). And that's about the point any e90-based BMW, yes even the "mighty e90 M3", would be wise to walk away from a heated discussion with a C6 Corvette owner, a car that is on the exceedingly short list of sports cars that have remained lightweight over several successive generations.
I have to say I mostly agree with you here, but at the same time, comparing an M3 to a corvette is like comparing apples to oranges... You shouldn't be comparing them! One is a purpose built 2 door sports car, the other is a 2 or 4 door medium sized sports sedan (one hell of a sweet one). The fact that a sports sedan can even be mentioned in or around the company of a purpose built sports car is impressive in its own right!

Both cars are wicked, but I'd pick the M3 any day over the corvette simply because I would find it highly amusing to keep close to a vette in a sedan. Although if we introduce the ZO6 or ZR1 into the equation, I'd pick one of those...

To each his own here folks, we can argue for days and days about what car is better, or what company is better, but in the end, both American and European company's produce some very slick cars! It's all a matter of personal opinion and taste.

P.S. One of my buddy's has a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am with a fully built crate motor producing in the realm of 700HP on pump fuel, (94 octane only tune; 94 is the best we can get in my city in Canada). This car will run 10.8 seconds in the 1/4 with nothing else done to it but an engine swap, everything else is stock, I kid you not! Total cost you ask? $10,000 for the engine, and about $3,000 for the car.. total? $13,000 and it will wipe the floor with most any car on the road in my city, and what do you know its American!! Its so badd A$$ that he even got a ticket last year for being too loud! lol...

Perhaps your blind, as I did post to this thread, and actually kept it on-topic:

"To answer the original question: "7.7 seconds to 60 mph and 16.3 at 85 mph in the quarter-mile..", much quicker than the stated 9 sec to 60.

Not that much slower than the 2002 MCS!

I raced a Clio Sport 197 in a controlled environment. He assumed (because he read in a magazine) that he is supposed to beat the JCW up to 4th gear. We raced from zero and rolling 40KMH and rolling 80KMH. I pull away in every attempt.

I attempted to follow what looked like a stock '08 MCS in my 300C the other day and couldn't seem to catch up. I was really surprised given that the 300C is a pretty fast car!
