R56 How fast are we with our stock MC?

I would be 1st in line to buy American...when they build a good car that is also stylish. Lets not go there on the G8...Pontiac will be done in several years anyway. The Cadillac is still not up to par as far as the fit and finish goes. Not to mention some of the ugliest cars on the street. I have driven the new CTS but when you drive one with 20k miles on it you start to hear the squeaks and rattles for a heavy poorly balanced car. You can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig.

Just small minded.....nows nothing about any other car but what he drives. My buddy has a CTSV with over 38K and its his daily driver...oh he auto X's and has been on Daytona and Seabring. He beats the crap out of his car and used it for a wedding we went to a couple of weeks ago...the car is like brand new inside, on the outside it has some road scars and track scrapes but other than that its like brand new and can smoke most cars on the road and track....This guy has no clue

I'm Just someone who has worked on cars for 15 years and is very, very picky about how things are built. Your friend, apparently is not picky at all...good for him. There is a reason GM and Chrysler is in big need of a bail out and ford isn't as bad. Ford at least have good cars in Europe, its a shame they don't bring them to the US. I have a test for you...get into any vette with leather seating and move the electric seats back and forth....listen to the plastic and pleather crumble and squeak while the electric motor vibrates you to position like its about to pop a fuse from to much friction/tension....ahh thats music to the ears of an idiot.
But thanks for calling me small minded, that tells me a lot about you. A person who can generalize someone from just 1 posting. You must have so many clues...wow You are amazing!

However, if you look at the level of performance for the vette, even with the seat motors, you can't touch that level of performance for the dollar. To get that level of performace you have to double the price you are paying. That has been the biggest knock on the new vette the interior. Sure you can go out and get the real nice leather interior that is impeccable but you are now paying over 200K. It's still the fastest production car out there with ZERO cars in it's price range that can touch it.
Your wrong about Ford. They need the money just as bad and are bleeding it just as fast as the others. Ford actually went out and got new fianancing before the cruch hit. That they saw the cruch coming is a good thing. Had they not set up the financing in advance they would be at the feeding trough as well. (It's just a matter of time before they are anyway.)
It does not matter who you are, if you're not selling cars your in trouble. And no one is selling cars now not even Toyota etc.
I still stick by my guns. The US car maker has good cars to sell and the quality is greatly improved.

Your my hero genius...you can tell a lot from someone who makes small minded comments...I happen to own a new Corvette and I have zero complaints...and the seats are nice and quiet as well..as for my buddy, he drives is really heavy car around a track, like it was made for. He is really picky about his toys. He just uses them the way they are ment to be used.

When GM makes a car that goes 0-60 in 4.7 and is balanced at 50.8/49.2 for 35k that is built better then any Vette or old fart Cadillac then we can talk. Until then I say you have a lot to learn about cars. And its sad because apparently you have a store for "specialty cars"

I have been building engines and restorations for over 20 years. Stop blowing smoke and making believe you know more than the average guy. There are many here who forgot more than you know. Your opinion is fine and express it anyway you like.....but stop making statements you know nothing about. You must be one of those guys who wants to see American car makers go under. Pathetic....

WOW...50.8/49.2 WTF.... Dont they make one 50.5/49.5. Your not impressing anyone. And yes I own a custom shop and been serving the Corvette and other American sports cars for many years.

You should really take your own advice...funny how you think you know me from my 1st post. Again that tells me I'm dealing with a complete idiot. I'm really sorry for your clients. I have nothing against American cars so stop making things up. I just think they are not up to par for a true performer. Anyone can take a big motor and slap it on a frame with hardly any suspension and call it a vette. The fact that you haven't challenged me on anything I've said about the car I'm speaking of says a lot....Thanks for playing.

Man I hope we can keep this going for a while....you are entertaining me. Well dont feel sorry for my customers, we make parts for show winning cars and most of our business is referrals....so keep trying. Your showing your A$$ in every post Mr. Auto expert..

Nice SPIN, but it seems you really need to work on your reading comprehension because you are not making any sense. You haven't replied to anything I've posted to in the past. So I guess GM will some day make that great car that they are missing....waiting. Till then I beleive you are the fool.
Lets see some pictures of cars you built...I have no problem posting some of mine

Alright, I know American cars are, on average, poorly built in comparison to other imported vehicles on the Market.
However, to make a statement that domestic car manufacturers produce no competent performance vehicles is pure crap. The Corvette, especially their higher breeds, is way above any vehicle in its price range. There are several other decent vehicles from the good ol' U.S.A.
Heck, I could name off more than a dozen sub-par import models. That doesn't mean imported vehicles are terrible.
You can't look at the manufacturer's decal and just write it off as crap. You need to look at the model. Just because it says, "Chevrolet," "BMW," or "Toyota," doesn't mean a damn thing. Drive before you speak.

I'll take a C6 with its horrible electric motor and horrible leather over an M3, at least I will be able to enjoy the vette instead of looking at it in the shop. I haven't met any people who have traded in their 'vette because of horrible reliability.
True story. Continue, I was enjoying the e-fight.

Wow, and this all seems to have started with claiming that the CTS is slow compared to an R56 MC?! Such "magazine racing" is ludicrous to say the least, especially coming from guys with MINIs, none of which are THAT fast in a straight line. Sheesh... well, without too obviously taking sides:
The CTS is (amazing! incredible! unprecedented! as it may seem to some in this thread) a very good driving car, particularly within its class of entry level luxury sedans, and particularly if equipped with the right suspension package and the manual gearbox. It is MORE than competitive with the current e90, which apart from its botched exterior styling and cheap and flimsy interior, is quite a bore to drive even compared with the previous e46. As for the e92 specifically, it's an extraordinarily capable car but weight distribution is not the only thing that factors into a great handling car (and I say this as a Miata owner with the famed 50/50 weight distribution +/- 0.2%). You know what else factors into a great handling car? WEIGHT (once again, I say this as a Miata owner at 2300lb). And that's about the point any e90-based BMW, yes even the "mighty e90 M3", would be wise to walk away from a heated discussion with a C6 Corvette owner, a car that is on the exceedingly short list of sports cars that have remained lightweight over several successive generations.

Gorgeous example Tazio... I won't pretend I haven't been thinking of building one from a kit in the medium-term future... in fact, Westfield kits can now be built from Miata donor cars, which is a pretty neat trick:
http://www.flyinmiata.com/westfield/performance.php
Even with 140hp 1.8L miata motor the car runs 5.5sec 0-60mph. But going FI on said miata motor (supercharger or turbo, SC would be my preference) will yield 4second flat times if not quicker. But it's the balance and handling that is most gratifying... check out this vid of a well driven Caterham:

Man now that's how it's done!

i think the euros have become extremely complex, and over engineered. Personally, i am biased towards euros, mainly for the build quality argument,
but i have friends with domestics, and i can say that is it is nice to get into a 67 stang, its simple and just a great drivers car. I appreciate the simplicity of the domestics. Look at Ford, they seemed to be doing great in Europe before this recession.
sorry, i dont want to instigate anymore arguing, just adding my $.02
