R56 DMTL Pump problem with salt corrosion
DMTL Pump problem with salt corrosion
Hi,
My Mini has almost 50K miles on it. I drive through a lot of snowy roads, salted, etc. throughout the entire winter in New York. Last week my check engine light came on and I took it in to the dealer. Apparently the DMTL pump and harness had to be replaced. The dealer said that there was significant salt corrosion in and around this pump and its wiring (?) so they have ordered some special gizmo to protect it from future salt corrosion. The location is near the tailpipe, but I have no knowledge of any of this stuff having never seen it before.
Has anyone else even heard of this sort of thing? I questioned the dealer service guy about how ridiculous it sounded to have such a sensitive part left exposed to potential damage like this. Does this sound bizarre?
Thanks for your wisdom.
