service notification surprise

The display that shows as you start up went from 7,000 miles until the next service to "Service" within a few days. Is this an alert that suggests that something is wrong?

You can step through the service requirements on the computer - it separately shows the distance until oil, vehicle check, front brakes and rear brakes. That will tell you what it thinks needs servicing which should narrow it down.

My guess is no. That service indicator is a complete mystery to me. Mine has stayed at 10,000 for months now.

On the previous service interval, it stayed high for a long time, but when it got to 7,000 it went down very quickly. My driving is mostly highway and conservative. That may be part of it.

Just one of the mysteries of Conditions Based Service. Unlikely that you have anything to fear

Could it be that it is not your miles that are up, but that you are close to the one year service interval?

Sound plausible, my MA said to bring her in every year regardless of the mileage!!

This is something I just love. My MINI has been serviced twice. I just had the second service. The car has 34000 miles on it. So, the can go 17000 between oil changes or something... I get the car back from the dealership, and it now says 7000 miles to the next service. Does anyone know what this entails? It's amazing that now the service warranty things runs out the car is going to need servicing more frequently. Awesome.

17k between oil changes may be "OK" to Mini, but you may regret it if you plan to keep the car for long.

I'm willing to bet that it's for a brake service or another service other than oil. I would cycle through the options that you can access when stationary.
