Best floor mats for bare feet?
Every once in a while, I like to kick off the sandals and drive barefoot. Not all that often, but often enough that an uncomfortable floor mat will really start to annoy me. I don't need something that's all soft and fuzzy... I just don't want my first thought to be, "no, my heel is going to hate me with these mats." In fact, I've been leaning more towards the rubber varieties out there... but I just don't know.
Does anyone else out there drive barefoot ever? Do your floor mats make you think twice about it? What kind should I get?

I sometimes kick 'em off when I'm wearing high heels that get caught under my clutch or brake.
I have the sport mats, I think, for summer. They're the plain black ones with reflective piping around them. They're pretty soft but still tightly woven so they stay clean - don't get stuff ground in, easy to vacuum.

I have Cocomats in my car and I love how they feel on my bare feet. Keep in mind, they're made from the husks of coconuts so they're NOT smooth and fuzzy in the least! Just the opposite. I'd venture to say that most people would think they're too rough.
If you're interested at all in this option, contact the vendor and he can send you samples to try out.
Good luck!

In some states it is illegal to drive barefoot.
(edit) After researching this via Google, I discovered that my High School driving instructor was WRONG many, many years ago! It is not illegal to drive a car in any of the US states with bare feet, though the rumor persists strongly to this day. (/edit)

And for any performance driving such as driving school or at autocross you need closed toe shoes to drive/ride along/ or work the track area.
For carpets you can also check out Yes Essentials mats-

Love my rubber mats for barefoot driving. I like that my heel doesn't slide on them because I leave my heel parked in one spot and pivot my foot from gas to brake. They also look really nice with my interior and carpet mats aren't as easy to clean.
You know, come to think of it, I should point out to my hubby that I want the matching boot mat for my car for xmas... but he's getting kind of tired of me asking for car stuff.... I've already asked for a new grille and I want suede boot covers for my shifter and ebrake and I've asked for more motoring badges and badge holders to work with the new grille... and...
I think he'd rather just have it easy and be able to buy me, you know.. jewelry and perfume and girly crap like that LOL!

I wonder why they treat it as "illegal". Even though I dont do it myself, I would think that it would be safer and more responsive to have the "bare feet contact" on the pedals, rather than a potentially slippery shoe .
If you are driving anywhere in this country and you're worried about the barefoot law, my God man, its time to chill and relax.
To the OP- rubber mats for me. They work great.

I'm not worried about it... I've tried it and I dislike it very much, but that's just me. I don't feel like I can get on the brakes as quickly as I can in shoes (longer lag while the softer tissue in my foot is compressing, maybe?) or as hard as I can with shoes on.
Above, I was stating what I had learned, probably in my Driver's Ed. classes in Georgia. Maybe my old High School should have sprung for a more educated instructor as it appears that he was WRONG!
To see WHY it might be unsafe to drive without shoes, I Googled it and found that the 'driving without shoes is against the law' is a MYTH. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...0100225AAMg81J
In most states, however, you must wear shoes while operating a motorcycle... http://tafkac.org/legal/driving.bare..._barefoot.html

"Driving barefoot isn't illegal, but it is unsafe.....all those little bones in your feet move a lot, like your fingers and hands, and providing a flat and supportive surface under and around your foot will give you more control."
Who wrote this, Uncle Buck?
Yeah baby. Those'll look peachy pristine after some muddy shoes grace their presence
Put on a little Jimmy Buffet and go for it. You can get a pretty big tumbler in the back holder of the armrest too
I like the rubber floormats. Easy to clean, plenty comfy on the heel, durable. I have a set of the Cosmopolitan floormats (with the white piping around the edge) but keep the rubber ones in most of the time.
Love the rubber boot mat, too. Keeps stuff from sliding around back there.

It's a good image, regardless.
