Removing R56 mirror covers.

Has anyone removed their R56 mirror covers using this method: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=97142

Does the mirror glass pop off like the R50?

Thanks, KenL

Yep, the glass pops out. I think the number of clips were different but it was easy. Make sure when you put the glass back in that it snaps tight. My came off one time closing my door. Thankfully the wires from the heated glass stop it from hitting the ground.

Your clips are much different than the ones in the thread you posted. Just put the tip of a flat head screw driver between the cap and the black trim and pull it off! You won't break any clips. literally 10 seconds per side.

Not between the mirror and the housing but between the main housing and the cover?

Does that not risk damaging the original cap or the housing?

basically stick the edge of the screwdrier under the edge of the cap. Do it from the bottom to hide any possible tiny scratch.

Decided to go for the "remove the mirror glass" method.
Absolute doddle. It took about 1 minute per side
New chequered covers look ace
Thanks to a kind chap on newminiscotland for selling them to me

Keep your originals. There have been reports that the checkered ones yellow with over time. Probably UV exposure.

Thanks was planning to keep them, just in case.

However, UV exposure is NOT a problem in Scotland
