Let me know if I can help.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but Mark / Orangecrush, can these guys fix curb rash/pitting on white rims too?

+1 on the concern for repairing structurally damaged rims...how reliable are they after repair?

Yes, repairing a white rim is actually easier because you're just painting the rim (assuming it's repairable)... any bodyshop can do that.

As far as structural damage, the repairs that the company does that comes to our shop are for cosmetic purposes.

The repair shop does however do repairs at their shop. Those would be rims that have missing metal, big gouges and out of round. They do true rims up so that they're straight.

Without physically seeing the rims, the next best thing would be to send a pic. If you need any help/advice, don't hesitate to ask.

Mark

PS. When I offer you guys things like offering the wheel repair, I'm not trying to "sell" you guys anything. I'm merely offering help because I know it will be done right and at my cost. I'm not making a penny of profit on it.... just thought you should know.

My GF is the worse at slamming my door and if I say anything like "it doesn't take so much force to close" I get yelled at! I just want my mini to be pristine is that WAY TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR
I yelled at my wife for slamming the door. These cars aren't made like the cars of yesteryear where the doors were huge and built like bricks.

I would tell her if she doesn't learn how to close the door properly then she can buy you a new car when the doors starts rattling OR she can walk and meet you where ever you are going. These things are expensive there really is no reason for slamming the car doors like that.

To the Original Poster: Check around your area for a wheel repair shop. Sometimes they can be less expensive than getting a replacement wheel.

Guys and gals:
At the begginning of December I went to my favorite Mini dealership to have my S serviced. I knew I had at least ONE bent rim so I asked the service writer to check it out and to let him know that I had a vibration at 65mph and over. Imagine my surprise when he came back and told me I had 2 front bent rims!
So I said to myself, "hey no problem, I have the tire and wheel extended warranty that the finance guy sold me, replace them all I told him." Here is where things got silly. He (the service writer) comes back and tells me unless the rim is bent to the point where it is undriveable or NOT holding air, the rim isn't covered. I was shocked to say the least as this is not how the coverage was sold to me. I then get a quote for a discounted price because I have sent a few guys there for service and to buy cars. The price, over $600 for two new rims remounted to my old tires plus tax. I was shocked to say the least. I have given the dealership until this posting to make things right by waiting for either a call or an refund to a coverage I will never be able to use and to this day, I heard from only my SA (sales advisor) who told me she had asked the finance guy about this and to give me a buzz and still, nothing.
I can tell you all right now, DO NOT buy the wheel/rim coverage unless you get IN WRITING that they will cover everyday bends, road rash and the like. How many of us have a catastrophic wheel or rim failure on our Cooper S'? So after all this, it has left me with a bad taste to say the least, when it comes to this type of coverage for me, it will never happen again. I found a place in Bath, PA. Wheel Collision Center, that was a true pleasure to deal with from day one. (800) 292-RIMS. The owner, Ed told me that the 17 inch wheel for my S was only made for 2007 model year and that the wheel wasn't readily available yet. (WCC specializes in the repair of OEM and aftermarket wheels) I was able to get two refurbished, repaired and true OEM wheels for my S exchanging my two bent fronts for $400 remounted, rebalanced and road checked including PA tax. While $400 isn't exactly cheap, it's an over $200 savings from my dealers price and exactly the cost of the useless extended warranty price that I am planning to recoupe in the price of my next car from either this dealer or another.
WCC kept me updated from day one, once they located the wheels, they called me and told me they were being refurbed and once they got the wheels round and true and went to paint it, they didn't like the way the paint came out so they stripped and re painted them again all the while giving me routine updates about this. EXCELLENT customer service to say the least. I would not hesitate to use them again and who knows, with the crappy NYC streets, I just may have to.

Stop j-turn parking!

Seriously though, when I taught my teen-aged sister how to drive back in Pothole PA, I had her run over every pebble and twig that was on her side of the road. (She loved that!) That way she knew exactly where her tires were. I also got 3 appliance boxes (two to simulate cars, one to be the sidewalk curb) and taught her how to extreme parallel park by moving the boxes closer & closer together. Not only could she deftly avoid most of the potholes, she could also park consistently within 6 inches of the curb which was a requirement for passing the PA drivers test way back when.

It won't do any good for you to get your rims fixed if you are just going to rash them out again.

So get yourself some small pebbles or beer cans and strategically place them on a convenient road and practice running over them. All it will cost you is some gas and time and you and your GF can have fun doing it!

Then, be careful where you park. Good luck.

-DUDE!! Happens all the time when passengers get in my Porsche or Mini ...neither car takes much force to close the door, yet everyone seems to throw all their weight into slamming it shut. I cringe everytime this happens. Doors can be closed gently, they don't need to be slammed w/ a lot of force. Where did this come from? -I mean, the only thing I can figure is all of these people have been driving around in 1960's and 1970's cadillacs and dodge darts their entire lives?

Take it to a repair shop I got my rims fixed for 50 $ each. The only thing is that the paint looks a little cracked but its better than paying for new rims. Furthermore, those cracks in the paint are barely noticeable because of the brake dust and other stuff.

check your local autobody shops. some of them will be able to do it. on my last car, the rim bent when i hit a pothole and was leaking air. it bent on the inside so i couldnt see it. anyway i went to an autobody that did this. they charged me $40. but since the repair was on the inside it wasnt repainted. obviously it would have been more to paint. the only issue with repainting though, its dificult to match exactly. i had a g35 previously and they said the color is unique and they wouldnt be able to match it exactly. but you can always have all 4 done.

Wheel damage - but just from driving??!!

I've got Web spokes on my 2006 MCS and they seem to have taken a beating just by driving. There are scratches and peeling plastic coating all over them. Anyone else have this problem and what can I do to fix the peeling plastic coating? Once dirt and water get into a nick, more and more starts peeling and flaking off. They look horrible now.

Assuming your wheels are painted with clearcoat, then you'll need to have the wheels either stripped or sanded, repainted and cleared.

You should be able to get it done for 100-150.

I have fixed a number of minor rashes using the autopia link on the first page. I never had a bad batch of paint from wurth and my repairs have been nearly perfect. Just take your time. It is also nice to know that if I do mess up and scrape a curb I have the ability to fix it for about $20.00 in materials.
