R56 PPG Windshield Woes
Hello Italianfry (love that name),
In regards to your question, I have full glass coverage on my insurance, so I haven't paid a nickel for any of my new windshields (although I'm hoping to not have any more put in!!)
nsarchett,
It is my understanding the Progressive insurance is deemed to be a "high risk" carrier. I used to have Progressive, and switched to another company, and when I spoke to the new company (and others when I was going through the process of switching), they all mentioned that Progressive was known for taking on higher risk drivers, and thus they considered me to be a higher risk even though I didn't have any negative history. You might be best off calling some other companies and explaining what's going on, and you might find a better rate too.

Heh more issue with PPG Glass..our MINI had PPG Glass put in place and it leaked like living hell into our car. $4k worth of water damage from a poorly installed PPG Glass windshield..Poorly installed and apparently PPG glass doesn't fit right or Safelite just cant install it for crap..Sad. Wont go with Safelite anymore for any repair work. They eventually paid for all of my repairs done by the damage but I never should have had to go through that.

I would probably blame the installer more than the fitment of the glass. Typically, if a glass is poor quality (and typically, PPG isn't a crappy brand), it's not a fitment problem, it's usually a clarity problem.
Cheap (er) glass will have distortions in the glass that can be viewed at certain angles. I guess it could be correlated to how the lenses are ground on glasses.... some better than others.
If you had water coming in, I'd say that the installer didn't do a good job setting the glass in the correct position and/or seal the windshield with urethane correctly. (not enough urethane, glass set too high, too low, etc, etc)
Glad you got it fixed... leaking windshields are annoying as hell.

That may work for you, but I'd end up having to replace my hood or roof and never once hit my windshield.
I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Update:
I WON! I WON! I WON! Progressive agreed that the glass is indeed defective. They're ordering me an OEM replacement for Safelite to install and denying payment to the first shop. First shop is also being removed from their "preferred provider list".
