NORTH CAROLINA WAS HORRIBLE!!!! not in my mini, thank god, but in my mothers rx 400h, those dodge chargers are extremely bad *** and very intimidating. I was going way over the speed limit but the fact that it was an instantaneous court date was just horrible considering i live 320 miles away. i asked my attourney regarding the number of clients over the years and he started to lauph...

if you are taking a roadtrip through NC, dont speed! and dont mess with chargers unless you know for sure its not the police!

I live in an area that has a lots of law enforcement around and they are "very effective" with careless or speeding drivers. I do not want to mess w/ these guys and so I drive in a manner that exceeds the letter of the law. I think over the years (MINI's were rare and really stood out in '03) they came to realize that I was not going to give them any problems (quite the opposite) and they always ignored me.

That said, I proudly drive a Cooper....it has plenty of power to get me into plenty of trouble should I choose to use it for that (which I don't). For me an MCS is a waste of a perfectly good up-rated engine. Besides, I've told all my cop friends to be on the look out for the MINIs w/ the mail slot in the bonnet...those are the real trouble-makers, not the others!!

Just sold my NC Limited Edition in velocity red and I concur that it would be more appropriately named "strobe flashing red". The R56 is black no tint.

I think in CA, you just run that risk with window tint. I've been pulled over for it and it sucks, but will tint the MCS I'm getting soon. I think it looks too plain without the tint.

I've heard of people getting ticketed on the way to Vegas, but I never have. I rarely see CHP and I know its patrolled by aircraft, but luckily (knock on wood) haven't been pulled over. Did some Audi A4 runs back in the day and got to Vegas in about 3.5 hours from Los Angeles and that is hauling major ***. Stupid I know, but I blame the mods.

i got pulled over a couple months ago because the COP had been told there was a BLUE Mini racing around the area...

I argued that my car is black, maybe even NAVY.. but clearly not blue..

I then recited to him the various shaded of BLUE looking MINI colors and said

"I'm sorry officer but this here Mini not a high performance vehicle..."

no ticket for me.. and i no longer drive agressively in that part of town :D

Since I got Viola, I've been stopped by cops twice, and have never been stopped before. The first time, I got a speeding ticket. The second time, the cop told me that cute girls shouldn't park cute cars in bad parts of town and he followed me to the freeway to make sure that I got out of that part of town safely. I've also had cops go out of their way to follow me up and down the main road here.

What'd I do? I mean I know my car's evil... but I really don't feel that I deserve all this attention!

NC is a piece of cake next to VA it is the worst state out there. The cops and laws there are ridiculous. I try to avoid that state anyway I can, lol.

perhaps you got pulled over because there are no 70mph speed zones in Hawaii?

I have never been pulled over in my Mazda Protege, nor my Mercedes-Benz C280. But since Saturday, I've been pulled over six times. SIX!

They claimed I was doing over the speed limit, but my trusty radar detector didn't go off, so I politely asked if I could see proof of their finds. They couldn't, so they were forced to let me off with a warning.

There are zero MINIs where I live. I haven't seen one ever, as this town is particularly poverty-stricken. I wouldn't be surprised if they were pulling me over to check out the vehicle. Each cop asked me how good the gas mileage is, how fast it is, etc.

However, all of these roving patrol stops occurred in the night, and I did roll down both my windows (they are relatively dark), turned on both map lights, and had both my hands on the steering wheel and my wife's on her lap. They were nice guys, but man, it gets old.

I drive the same in all vehicles I own, by the way, so my habits have not changed. They're attitudes do change when they find out I am a Federal Agent, however. My agency and theirs are real cool around here. Thumbs up to connections!

If the locals hassle you, make sure you put on the front plate if required in your state.

I am just glad that my spedo is a little off. Everytime I go by one of those cop speed signs that tell you your speed it says I am going 2-3mph slower than what my spedo says so that is a good feature, hahahaha

I'm hassled 10x more by the state police then by the local county or town cops. Go figure.

There is a difference between a cop and a trooper. I know many cops, they hate troopers. One of my friends was stopped in NJ, he is NYPD. He showed the trooper his badge, the trooper asked to see it. Then he threw the badge into the bushes and told him to have a nice day and left.

I don't usually run a front tag and have been hassled SIX times for it (only one warning ticket) in four years, I don't run a front tag on my Integra and have been hassled for it ONCE in 13 years.

One thing I will say, cops absolutely HATE TINTED WINDOWS...so if you get pulled over and you've got tint, chances are you will get a ticket.

I've got tint on my Integra but I went with one step above the lowest tint level offered (I forget the percentage), there were two tint levels above that which were still legal but too dark IMO, and I'm sure a cop would take issue with them.

With tint when you think about it, it's easy for them to write a ticket, then up to you to take a day off work, go to court and produce documentation showing it's legal...

+1 Every cop I know hate tinted windows. Its just so much easier for them to get shot on approaching the car.

When i tell people that i am getting a mini they go on to stay "Well thats going to be a ticket magnet, you know?"

I hate that term tho, Ticket Magnet. I am a firm believer that its not your car its the way you drive Now that i am thinking about it i have never even driven by a mini that has been pulled over!!

Why do they consider MINIs ticket magnets? Is it just because they stand out from all the other cars on the road?

I don't really get it.

Don't drive like an idiot and the police won't hassle you. I rarely even get hassled by the cops in my bright red Lotus Elise.

I dont get it either. People just dont know what they are talking about. Like what you said, they just assume that just because the mini is so different it will get pulled over

If you've been pulled over 6 times in less than a week you're obviously doing something to attract attention. The idea that you don't deserve a speeding ticket because your detector didn't make any noise is absurd. It would make for an amusing argument in court though.

not true. I was pulled over on I-95 while in the middle lane, cruise on 65mph. the cop pulled out from the access road and tailed me for a mile and then pulled me over. I was following my wife in the SUV ahead of me, also doing the speed limit.
