I drove from Charlotte to Tampa Friday night. For the better part of the trip, I was running about 90mph with the ac on and windows down.

I reset my "average speed" and my average was 80.7 mph....

Even at those speeds (SC has a lots of hills) I average 33.4 mph.

I know if I drive at 70-75 mph with the cruise on, I get closer to 40 mpg.

Not bad for an auto turbo.

Especially considered the last time I drove my H2 down to Orlando (less distance) and it cost me over 700 bucks in gas there and back.

I'll make the trip round trip for about 150 bucks in gas.

Me likey....

Do I have the right idea or am I just being paranoid? Noobish question I know...but the only cars I ever drove that were manual either didn't have a tach (so i never payed attention) or guzzled so much gas it didn't matter how slow I drove
I stay below 2500 rpm when accelerating in normal situations. In sixth gear on freeway it is inevitable to go over 2500 rpm.

I have not received my new Mini S yet (scheduled for week 32 build), but enjoy reading these posts. Minis are amazing in that they are the only car out there that can pull 0-60 in under 7 seconds yet still average 30+ MPG....even for those of you that are "only" experiencing 28-29 MPG that is still phenomenal for the speed and handling of these cars. I challenge anyone to find a car that gets this sort of mileage, can accelerate, handle and turn heads like a Mini S.

Anybody else have MPG figures for the MC. We have tons for the MCS. The sticker says something like 28-29 city/36-37 hway and I always thought the MC would get a lot better than that. Cyber Gypsy getting 40 city confirms my suspicions!
