Sport button 'always-on' best/worst mileage figures?

Quite surprised there are no recent topics nor posts specifically for this.

I've been driving for the past five months without the sports button fearing it'll hinder mpg average... but I'm starting to document and chart out usage now.

I'm about 90% city, 10% highway daily commute with my Mini. 30 miles to/from work + errands for lunch daily.

Without using the Sports Button, I've been doing 24.4 mpg (accumulative since 1/30 through 7/6; before I found out about the 'reset' function)

The tank I've driven from 7/7 until today gave me 26.1 mpg. These figures are OBC calculated. I still have 78 miles to go; which will take me about 2 more days go through.

Next tank, I'll drive purely with Sports Button on.

Does anyone have any best/worst mpg figures documented of using sports button 'ALWAYS ON' with the current R56's?

Pretty sure with an auto-tranny that there will be a difference than from a manual-tranny.

It hardly makes a difference.

I hate how the throttle response is with out the sport button on, so mine is on 98% of the time. I get great mileage. Usually 30-32 in city and can average up to 40 on the freeways. (If I go the speed limit....which never happens) .

Just drive with it on, you'll learn to appreciate the throttle response and never go back to the non-sport mode.

It may depend on the driver or car....I lose a bit of mpg in sport mode, but some folks report doing better!!!

I've never been able to drive without it long enough to notice a difference in MPG. I just notice the throttle's gone all soggy and turn it on. In a manual I can't see it'd make any difference.

Actually thats not quite true, when I was trying to be economical, I left it off, it probably helps with gentle throttle application. That tank got more MPG, but because I was trying, not because of the sport mode. It was also very boring.

I've used the Sport Button from day one, never leave home without it. I get 40-41 mpg hwy and 35-36 mixed city/rural. This is actual (calculated). From what I've read and been told it has little if any effect on MPG. Now if having the sport button on "encourages" you to drive a little more aggressive that's another story. But all else being equal I don't think it really makes a difference.

Ditto, I use it all the time and combined mgp is 35.2

This is probably true....if you want to totally max out your numbers, fine, but otherwise in and of itself the effect is negligable.

I got 43.8, hand calc'd, from Hanksville Ut to Ely Nv.

And Percy is an "S".

I don't drive without the sport button on.

All you folks driving without the sport button on....you're really missing out!

It just doesn't drive like a MINI should without it on.

Ditto...I'll get around 26 mpg with it off but with it on I'll go all over the 28 mpg range depending on how much I overboost...which unfortunatly is a lot

This is all OBC calculated because I haven't filled my tank in a while and I guess the tank has to be filled to hand calculate?

80% city/20% highway.

Ish.

I think he's talking about resetting the MPG to 0.0 so it calculates it from scratch.

So is there a way to keep the sport button on all the time so it doesn't turn itself off when the engine is turned off?

I'm pretty sure I read of a mod that automatically turns it on when you turn the car on.

Try searching for it, I'm pretty sure its out there

I have a 2008 MCS w/auto trans. and when I push the sport button it raises my RPMs almost 500 rpm which in turn shows up in some what lower mpg. Getting sporty never saves gas for me but I love it!

Still in break-in mode, so I haven't used the Sport mode yet. Without Sport mode I am getting 34mpg.

At WOT with the sport button on you get 15psi instead of 12psi.

I modded mine within the first week of taking delivery last summer, so I have a bit of a history with this mod now. After 15k miles...

In the Winter I will get about 28 - 33 mpg.

In the Summer I get about 30-35 mpg
