MINI "green" rating

The 2008 Mini has a pretty good rating in the gasoline class of vehicles. Its tied in the 13th spot but not to far off in the overall ratings. Oh and the Clubman is 3rd !!!

That is the MCS in 13th. The Clubman is an MC. So, I think you could assume that the MC Coupe would be 3rd, and the Clubman MCS would be 13th.

My friend who drives an Excursion is thinking of getting a MINI. That'll be a switch! This $4 gas has even the die-hard SUV drivers looking at us!! Glad to see the MINI does well in the "green" category.

I'd still drive the Mini if it burned a hole in the ozone everywhere it went.

Not me. Emissions put me off owning a classic Mini.

Considering how far a Mini has to travel to get to the U.S. not to mention Hawaii I wonder just how green a Mini really is? What about all the fuel and energy spent shipping the car all the way from Britain? The trucks from the factory to the port, a ship from port to port, a truck from port to the dealer, seems to cancel out some of the Mini "greenness" IMO.

If you click the view button it shows the Clubman S as 71 same as the MCS in 13th.What is odd is that there is no difference in the EPA figures for the MC and Clubman base or S but the rankings are.

Look at it this way. If you buy a mini most of the parts that go into it are made in Europe other than the automatic which is Japan. If you buy a Japanese car most of the parts that go into it are made in Japan and China.

Everything car built contain parts from all over the world. How green is anything in a global economy?

that list makes absolutely no sense to me. cars with worse gas mileage are rated higher than cars with better gas mileage, i know there's more to it than just gas mileage, but it just doesn't make sense. and why pick the clubman as opposed to the cooper? it seems kind of arbitrary. if the picked the clubman, they should have used the clubman s. also, the GTI is on there twice. 2008 and 2009. kinda stupid. and i like how, with the PZEV california bs, it jumps up like 10 spots. come on. i think that list is pretty much worthless. like j.d. power.

We just traded in our Excursion (Diesel) in for a Mini Cooper S and never looked back. From driving the largest SUV ever made to the coolest looking small car. Gotta love it!!

The reason the Clubman rates higher than the Coupe is that the Coupe is an S with lower mpg, and the Clubman is a regular Cooper. I think they figured that the Clubman represented both the MC Clubman and MC Coupe, while the MCS Coupe represented both it and the MCS Clubman.

yea, i know that, it just seems like a misleading comparison to me. if i didn't know anything about MINIs, i would be wondering, well, does a regular cooper get that kind of mileage, i guess thats not their problem, i'm just a stickler for consistency.

I believe MINIs take the train from production line to port.

well apparently, according to jeremy clarkson, a prius is more environmentally damaging than a land rover discovery, for similar reasons. because of all that is involved in making it. thats why we need the mini cooper d. same carbon output as the prius, but with much better gas mileage.

here's the video i saw this in. they race a prius around the track and jeremy follows in an m3. their intention is to see which one uses more fuel. the prius goes full bore and he just has to keep up. long story short, prius gets 17 and m3 gets 19, not surprising other than the prius doing so well, considering it was at full throttle the whole time.

I doubt you will find a car made in the USA that doesn't have parts from all over the world. Also amortize the carbon used in delivery over the life of the car, compared to the total cabon used during the car's lifetime.
