Almost done configuring...

my MINI. Now for the question: What are the options that can be added later on i.e., after getting the car and what are the options that need to be added as part of the order? Also does it cost a ton to add features later on? Thanks.

If you're thinking about an option that would mean dealer labor, order it with your Mini. The dealers kill you on labor.

Stripe it now!
If you may want the interior chrome, do it now for $250. Dealers will charge three times that for fake chrome.

Agreeing 100% with DragonWagon. If you want it, order it now.

Read very carefully the statement on Screen 5 of the configurator, too.

Most say don't get the dealer installed stripes. Go 3rd party.

Things that can be installed post build by the dealer:
  • Bluetooth/iPod integration
  • Factory Alarm (the $250 option in the configurator)
  • Chromeline interior/exterior
  • MFSW
  • Fog Lights
Don't get these installed by the dealership after the fact, it is substantially more expensive. Order your MINI with these features if you want them.

It can? How much does that cost, I'd like to get it retro fitted to Tristan.

^^In prior conversations with my MA he mentioned it would probably be over 1k retrofitted.

EDIT: A thread here. It seems that it's super expensive and some dealers won't even do it:

I casually asked my MA and he said something like $1200, I didn't enquire further.

So when you say its dealer installable, its not really practical to do it.

Absolutely. Yes, the whole point being - you can probbaly get it done by the dealer but just get it installed at the factory...

I'm not sure that is correct. Bluetooth is not part of iPod Integration, and I'm not sure whether the Bluetooth/USB iPod Adapator can be done by the dealer. Even if it can, it would be more expensive to pay dealer installation than have it done at the factory.

There is a point in the configuratior where a warning dialog pops up to tell you there will be installation costs added to all following items. Order anything before that dialog from the factory. Many options cannot be added later, and those that can are much more expensive than factory installation.

There are some times you are better off getting after-market and installing yourself. Mudflaps are a classic example of this. They aren't difficult to install, if you are a bit handy and don't mind removing wheels. Dealer installation costs are often quite steep.

For wheels, there are much better deals available after-market. Factory wheels are heavy and expensive.

Aftermarket stripes offer many more options in style and color. You can usually find a good local installer.

Yes, very good points and thanks for clarifying Robin. As Robin stated, in the configurator, when you're building your Mini, and you hit part 5, a disclaimer automatically pops up that you have to agree to. It's the parts in that section that costs additional to be installed.

The Bluetooth thing is sketchy, I'm still not sure if anyone knows for sure if it can be installed post-build.

Two things I would really suggest ordering are Xenons and LSD. Both are a bargain at $500 each from the factory and much more expensive to retrofit later.

So I ordered a car off the lot because I couldnt wait til one came in (i wouldve been carless and wouldve had to rent and that was a waste of money imo). The car i got is perfect imo except for 1 thing..no MFSW. Is there a way to get that from the dealership? I just picked up my car last thursday and I just got my license today..hehe My husband had to drive my car home cuz i wasnt licensed yet.
