I could maybe see 20% on sunroof (I stuck with 30%) but not 5%. Part of having a sunroof is to lighten up interior with natural light. Why have a sunroof if your going to block 95% of it.

What helps heat buildup best is not necessarily % but material used. Ceramic is best. absorbs least amount of heat.

5% on the sunroof still lets in plenty of light but keeps the heat out! To each his own.

Definitely get something with a lifetime warranty as it will be harder to scratch and more durable. I have 10% all around(no tint on windscreen) on my MINI but I did not tint to sunroof and the beige leather makes it look lighter than it really is. I'm from Florida and got it done there and have never had any problems with 10% on my MINI or my Jeep in Fl, Ga, SC, NC, TN, Va, KY. Granted your situation may not be the same but I think 10% is perfect especially sine my MINI is Astro Black. Take a look at my pics and you will see it. Also, its not too dark at night.

Yes the interior makes a huge difference. I thought 20% would be too light originally but the dark interior makes it darker - closer to 15% if my interior was beige. And by not doing the sunroof don't forget that the 10% you have is closer to 25%+ when the sunlight is coming in the top of the car. Put a temporary shade in there and see the difference!

Certainly, to each his own. Wasn't trying to dis your choice at all. Just my own opinion. For me 30% on my SS/SS was perfect.

Actually, now that I see you have SS/B I think a darker % would look good particularly on sunroof.

BTW, good color choice.

Take note. The GA Supreme Court struck down the previous tint law as unconstitutional because it only affected vehicles registered in GA. Since 2005 the law has applied to ALL vehicles in the state, including those registered in another state. Just gotta watch for things like that. GA only allows 32%.

I'm in SC and have an Astro Black--I went 27%--wanted 20, but cops are getting stricter in the town I live in. Also, I went with the 3M tint because it was a darker color to begin with than the regular tint. Works great, but I still would prefer it darker.

Here is our 03

I did our 03 with very dark limo tint and when combined with the factory tinted windows & the 20% the tint guy put on over it them the end result was very dark, perhaps too dark.

Now on our 07 MCS

I had the tint guy go with 35% which again when combined with your already factory tinted widows turned out to be somewhere around 25% which to me looks just about right, in my opinion that is...

Got the anthracite headliner? That can also make it look darker. My tint is guaranteed to be 27% per SC law, and they used 35% SunTek Carbon. I like the look of it, though I wish it adhered to the dot matrix on the windows a little better.

Yes I have the headliner

and that's what probably does make it look a lot darker than I expected it would but I'm still happy with it none the less. Our 03 was really dark somewhere are 16% or so if I remember. I totally agree with you on the dot matrix part too.

I had my MCS done for $150 by Solar Solutions in Bedford MA, about the same drive for you as it was for me. They come highly recommended, I was pleased with the whole process. Also had clear bra done at the same time.

I had my Clubman done with FormulaOne Pinnacle 35%. This is the first time I've tried this tint and I've noticed it keeps the car a lot cooler than all the 35% metallic tints I've tried and even FormulaOne's Classic line (also a ceramic).

Same here

I had both of our Mini's & all of our vehicles for the last 7 or 8 yrs done by Solar Solutions of Bedford Ma for $150. They do a great job and I won't use anyone else after seeing so many awful tint jobs.

I don't think so. When I first saw your post I thought 3M certainly must have a ceramic line since they had been in the business so long. I've cruised the net and can't find where they specifically offer a ceramic tint. Rather surprising to me.

Here is 3M's automotive window tint web site. Looks like metalic and carbon are the choices.

Doh!!.... I just did it!... Bummer. Everyone with tinted windows needs to heed pillar's warning!

Don't release the seatbelt uncontrolled and let it slap the window. It'll ding your tint. One or two may be unnoticeable but any more and your looking at a re-do not covered by any warranty.

I goy confussed with my Troopers belt. The retract mechanism is worn out on it so I got used to encouraging the fast return for it to retract properly.
No can do on MINI.

I recently had my windows tinted in Ohio at a Ziebart and opted for 35% on the front windows and 20% on the back three. I think it looks great with the black roof and mirrors and it is plenty dark enough during the day. It was only $189 w/ lifetime warranty, I would recommend them to anyone. Fortunately, these meets the legal limits in Kentucky which is where I live even though I do most of my driving in Ohio.

Anyways, here's my question. Has anyone had any issues with their tint on the front windows due to the constant rolling up and down of the windows when entering and exiting the car? Especially when the tint is brand new?

BTW, nice color combo Digger, I have the same on my '08. It seems to be rare but I love it!

No issues here. I even had to lower my window all the way during my "don't roll the window up/down for 72 hours" phase. Frickin parking garage. Anyway, no problems for me.

And yes, excellent color selection.

Can any tint shop get rid of those horrible back side and rear window outlines that most say the tint can't stick too?

The little black dots? You can tint over them - they may need to be sanded down slightly first but should have tint on top of them....it will catch in between the "dots"

It will still look like this though:
