R56 Totally ignored by a Corvette driver
Totally ignored by a Corvette driver
I was out riding my bicycle today. At a traffic light I was standing right next to a shiny yellow C6 convertible at the front of the line. His top was down and I was looking down on him and said "Nice car.." He didn't look. His radio was on but I was at 2 O'Clock in his visual field looking at him. I said one more time, "NICE Car!" Still no response. I felt like an idiot. The light changed and he took off. I went on my way. I am never giving any more compliments to Corvette drivers. NO MORE!

Hehe... Don't sweat it. The guy probably wasn't a gearhead and just has the corvette for "status" or something lame like that.
You'd be surprised at the number of times I've been given funny looks or just flat out ignored by everyone from MINIs to exotics when I try to compliment them on their car. But it's pretty awesome when you find a cool driver and spend a few seconds at a stop light talking about cars.

Good one! As I was sweating and swearing to myself up a steep hill, I thought, "Damn, I shoulda asked what kind of gas mileage he gets!"

Maybe he really didn't hear you.
I drive a 'vert ~ with a very loud Zoomers exhaust. When the top is down, motor running, stereo on, and ambiant traffic noise, it is hard to hear things. I speak from experience.
Sure - he could have been a complete a$$. Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn't. But are you really going to allow the negative actions of one person dictate how you approach all others who drive the same car? C'mon....MINI people are bigger than that.

I have to admit, I dig the C6 'vette. If I wanted a $1k/month payment I'd be all over a Z51 coupe
...but definitely NOT in show-off Yellow. Yellow Corvettes are definitely a different kind of 'vette owner. The ones that are in it for the performance have silver/blue/black/white ones. I would definitely say thanks if I got a compliment, but to be honest I wouldn't expect it compared to the cutesy/fun attention the MINI still gets 6 years later.
Sorry to hear you had a poopy experience. Be glad the MINI people are generally more fun!

I also have a SLK convertible, and for the most part, MB owners are snots. They don't wave, they barely acknowledge that you drive the same brand as they do.
So surprise surprise... I come out of a restaurant a few weeks back and someone left a 'tag' on my SLK! It was an invite for a SLK online community, with the screen name of the referral. Turns out he drives a very nicely spec'd ride, and he has turned me on to some really nice car guys/gals who happen to drive Mercedes.
So don't let the Corvette dude get to ya; I've had plenty of Mini drivers here who can't be bothered to wave or even smile back. Find the people who are most like you, and forget the rest

I have a few vettes were not all jerks. I generaly hold conversations at lights about the cars. I have a 55,60,two diffrent 65s, 69 and a 70
So its the same with everyone you win some you lose some.

You really shouldn't lump all Vette drivers into a bad group based on one guy. I know plenty of nice people who drive vettes & I also know a few jerks who drive MINIS
. Plus, my first MINI Cooper compliment came from a vette. On day one of ownership I had my top down, new cherry red vette pulled up beside me at a redlight, rolled down his window & told me what a nice car I had
Just remember as you stereotype the guy in the vette beside you as "having a midlife crisis" the guy on the other side of you is wondering how gay you are for driving a MINI
It's all relative

Hubby got his 'Vette for his first mid-life crisis. At this juncture, the mileage question would have been great!
My best friend drives an '07 Z06, and he loved my '02 MCS before I sold it. I'm a lurker and occasional poster over at CorvetteForums (having been a lifelong devotee of the car), and they are an exceedingly nice bunch of folks. Rude people drive every kind of car, MINIs included. The mid-life crisis stereotype is so played out. Seriously.
Hmmm? Can you type a Freudian slip?
I'd give the driver the benefit of the doubt and assume he really did not hear you. You may think he should have seen or heard you, but that doesn't mean he did either. He might have been distracted. Or just uncomfortable. As a convertible driver myself, I am sometimes uncomfortable with people nearby saying "nice car" and stuff when the top is down. What can you say? "Thanks" always seems silly. It's not like I built the car or had any say in making it a nice car. I just happened to buy it. And yes many people have said "nice car" a couple times before I noticed them.
And anyway, he's driving a Corvette. Feel sad for him that he could get a real sports car. (I could go on for a while about how low my opinion is about Corvettes but we'll just leave it at that)
