MP3s vs. MP4s and the MINI upgraded Stereo

Sorry all.......Noob error. I realize I should have posted this message in the Nav/Audio section of the board. Please ignore. Moderators, please delete if necessary.

I should have my new MINI in about a week. In the meantime, I bought an Ipod and have been loading music on it to play in the MINI. I am not an expert at converting CDs to MP3 or MP4, so I have a question:

Will the upgraded MINI stereo play both MP3 and MP4 formatted files?
Will the data readout on the radio be the same in either format?
Is there any advantage of using one of these formats over the other?

I downloaded WINAMP to do this but you must upgrade before it will allow you to convert to MP3. (It allows MP4) I have been converting at the highest bitrate possible (356 bit, I think)

Please excuse my ignorance and thanks for the info!

If you have an iPod, iTunes will optionally store the music from your CD's as MP3's.

But if you have an iPod and are loading music to play on it in the Mini, that seems to indicate that you have the iPod interface ?

If you have the iPod interface, you do not need to worry about the format.

The MP3 'bit' is a reference to the ability of the stereo to accept data CD's with files burnt as MP3 files on it.

If you are playing via your iPod, you should be fine.

To switch iTunes to 'rip' to MP3 format, go to

edit::Preferences::Advanced::Importing

and change from AAC to MP3

Considering you already have an iPod, you can use the Aux-in port with a cable to/from the port to your iPod and play the music from your iPod.

The CD player can only play CD audio and mp3's. Cannot play MP4's, WAV, RIFF, AIFF, WMV's and the likes. Don't understand why it cannot play WAV... I find that odd.
