There isn't a Mini dealer in San Diego. That's right, 8th largest city in the US and they lack a Mini dealer. If you do want to get your Mini serviced it's a 30+ mile drive to a lousy, inconveniently located dealer in po-dunk Escondido, CA.
I can't believe there isn't a Mini dealer in San Diego! SF MINI is all of about 8 miles away, so no problem there, and there's also East Bay, Concord, Mountain View, which aren't close, but do give me options! I might even shoot Long Beach MINI my config. Nothing wrong with a little road trip (and a visit to SoCal friends & fam) in a new car!

Thanks again, everyone. I am really, really excited about this car and have decided to move forward on ordering my dream car: PW/B MC, front/rear fogs, chrome line interior & exterior, Premium & Convenience packages, black lounge leather, cream line, English oak, sport stripes, clear bra, Union Jack scuttle. (Though last night my husband sort of made mutterings about MY...

In one word....YES!!

Although my specific '08 MCSa has just recently experienced some minor mechanical problems all have been or will be corrected under the factory warranty. And the car has an excellent 4 year/50,000 mile warranty along with a free 3 year/36,000 mile maintenance program.

Besides being part of any auto enthusiast message board the complaints tend to be voiced more over the joys of trouble free driving. That is just human nature.

Absolutely!!!!!! I had an early '03 Cooper (early build = some issues to sort) and then bought an '07 Cooper (same deal) and the warranty sorted any and all issues with dispatch. The car is amazing...even moreso to drive every day for years. The only reason I'd not get another MINI is that my central nervous system could not sustain this level of euphoria indefinitely, but so far I'm holdin' up okay!!! I'm serious...every time I've gotten in the little car to motor somewhere for the past 5.5 years has been a thrill!

Closest Mini dealer is over 50 miles away, so if it ever needed towed...

I presumed that BMW dealers(much closer) will also service the Mini under warranty, apparently that's not the case?

YOU MUST BUY THE MINI.

Those "scary" notes from owners are few and far between...I'm on my second MCS MINI (both w/ 6speed manual trans, AND sunroof) since 2004, and I have had MAYBE one problem in common with the rest of the note-makers.

And as long as you check w/ the BMW dealership/service dept closer to you to make sure they can handle the MINI technicalities, they will also service the MINI.

YOU MUST BUY THE MINI!!!!!! (and just to be on the safe side, you have to make it a BRG. )

Yes, worth it -- best designed, best built, best performing, best mpg, best handling car I've had.

Distance from service? I am 250 miles from my dealership. I had a throttle problem last winter. MINI sent a flatbed for the car and provided a rental car while it was being fixed.

The BMW dealer in Tuscaloosa, AL will not service a MINI for warranty work, they say they are not authorized to do that. They will do small jobs such as oil changes and such, but at cost only.
