MINI factory will temp cease production

I didn't see this posted... But if you are waiting on yours to be built....

Hundreds of staff at BMW's Mini factory in Oxfordshire will be temporarily forced to cease production this weekend due to Spanish fuel protests.

This is not a good thing at all for people who are waiting........waiting anxiously for a MINI to arrive is as bad as waiting for your newborn child to get there.................you get all antsy

After the rep at ASK MINI jokingly said the workers were on strike earlier today...

This is messed up.

About 700 Minis are produced every day at Cowley, where 4,700 people work three shifts, seven days per week.

:( Since mine is waiting for transport I hope I won't be effected. The waiting is killin me! so that's 1400 mini's that won't be produced on Saturday and Sunday. That sucks. I do feel very sorry for the workers who this is effecting too. All around not a good thing. I hope it is resolved very soon.

I wonder what this specifically means in terms of how long the delay will be to get our cars! I just ordered mine!

They are supposed to make a decision sometime today about re-starting on Monday. Anyone heard anything?

I think mine is getting pushed back because of this.

My estimated completion date says 17th on the automated line, and 19th every time I call an actual representative. Bleh.

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Cleared production and completed 6/11/08!!!!! Awaiting transport!.....and meds.

Guess that strike may not impact me for production anyway. Just slow boats...dang. So they say it's about 4 weeks to get on vessel, across the pond, through the system and to the dealer. Only took a week to get it finished. Oh well...the wait begins.

Bring on the meds!

From: Orlando, Fla.
"One production line worker at the plant told the BBC he feared staff would not be paid while production was halted.
The man, who asked to remain anonymous, said workers would probably have to work extra hours in future not to lose out on pay...."

You want something else to worry about, how about if you are one of the cars being built when the worker is not getting paid for or is using his "comp" time and, in effect, working when he thought he was going to be on a paid time off!
