+1, you both are definitely not alone, don't even think about it nowadays.

You can decrease the darkness of the tint, but still block much of the heat buildup insdide. NOT completely heat-blocking, but a significant difference. I paid about $100 more (where I live) for this type of tint, and found it was well worth the extra $. We break 100 degrees here in the summer quite often ...

And, I left this off, but get the front fog lights, too. They are on this toggle switch panel ... confirm with your dealer to get all the toggle switch options to fill the panel.

thanks for this information. It sounds like ceramic tint is just what I want especially for the sunroof so I don't have to go to dark but it will still keep the heat at bay :D Now to find a reputable place to get the work done. I guess I need to find a local Mini club.

I don't like the armrest, it just gets in the way. I'm not very fond of the latest versions of the iPod adapter either, they're quite annoying and I get on better with a 3rd party car adapter. The latest time we got the iPod/Bluetooth with no armrest option. The BlueTooth option is really great and wish I could get it on Tristan.

I like the sport suspension, it makes the car MINI-like, I'm not sure what a US spec MINI without it is like, but its great with the sport suspension. The DSC is also a great idea, it can save you neck according to the statistics. I also wanted the sport seats, they're more comfortable (and they come in the cloth/leather option). By the time I'd added that I it was cheaper to get the sport package for Tristan (a Cooper), but I didn't want the 17" wheels so we didn't get the sport package on Shawn (an S).

Why thank you. LOL... well that indeed is ironic then, because the SL has one very big sunroof...

Consider it an eBay Motors success story. Living on LI w/the car in FL, I did however pay a service to have it inspected before deciding on winning the auction. Having a great MB mechanic and doing extensive research on mercedesshop.com, I went into it knowing it would be needing more than $5K of mechanical work due to its age to correct for known weaknesses of that platform.

edit: now to be on-topic... I just ordered it and delivery is months away... but there's already something I wish I got... hot chocolate exterior and brown leather interior! Now if that's availabe on the clubman, why can't it come on the r56 line?!

Does anyone ever get the factory alarm??? After hearing Todd @ Motoring File gushing over the factory JCW he drove, I'm beginning to think the JCW's are going to be targets. I'm wondering if I shouldn't have gotten the alarm?

The Alarm is a reasonable Peace Of Mind item, even at $500 for the factory version. You'll pay the same for a decent after market alarm.
It's one of those, I Had One Before and I Want One Now.

The Mini should be a low ripoff item, but yaneverknow.

I don't think there's much point to the alarm unless you leave valuables out in the open. The Mini's already equipped with an immobilizer and there isn't even a real ignition switch. The only real way for it to be driven away with is if it's scooped by a flatbed/towtruck & an alarm isn't going to help you there.

The alarm system's a dealer installed option anyway, so it's never too late to order/install it, you may even be able to negotiate a deal on it after you get your Mini instead of paying full MSRP like you do on the car & accessories when you're making the initial purchase. btw, it's only $180 at morristown mini for the alarm, plus whatever your dealer charges for the install.

Wish it had comfort access and LSD. Wish it didn't have PDC. Thankful I found one without a sunroof.

My alarm is factory installed. They said it would cost less to do it that way then to pay for labor at the dealership. Which is like $140 an hour (i think that's what they told me buc I could be way off). I think the dealer installed alarm was $250 on the configurator.

As someone who has owned both S and non S coopers, what can you tell us about differences and similarities between the models? Also, with respect to modifications?

My Mini S was $26k (w/o tax) ...still have another 3 weeks til I pick it up.

What I got:
Dark Silver w/ Black
Carbon Fiber Hood Intake
Sport Suspension
LSD
All Black Leather Interior
IPod/Bluetooth
White Out lenses
Chrome line interior
Anthracite Headliner

Already ordered 3rd part:
-All black 17" Konig Wheels
-Yokohama Parada Spec 2 205/45/17 wheels

...I still have time to add a JCW body kit ...seriously thinking of asking the dealer to install this. ...Yet, also seeing if I can order this at any time in the future? Or if I can find it cheaper from a 3rd party

hahaha... yep. A few boards don't do it but I was very happy to find this one does. I figured if I changed cars to something other than an r56s, I'd be unhappy having that handle. This one will remain appropriate forever. It took some time and I thought I might need to make another request. The admin was apologetic about the delay; I responded with much thanx and to not be sorry at all for any delays.... we all have live too, right?

Some days I wish I had not bought the iPod accessory, like when I have to switch between podcasts and music, and some days I'm glad I did, like when I just leave it on random the entire drive. It's a very love-hate thing. I think I will hate it again tomorrow morning.

I don't know about mods, I've never indulged.

Apart from the Power, it mainly depends on how you configure them. Even configured the same, the MC seems a little softer, or the S a little more agressive. (On one particular corner, the MC does 44 mph, the MCS 49.) The steering is a little heavier on the S, you have to push the sport button on the MC to get any feel at all. The MC gear ratios seems a little eccentric, a long way from 1st to 2nd, but that's because they fit the MCS engine.

You can flog the MC a lot and not be driving too insanely, the MCS gets insane in a very great hurry, its difficult to use all of the MCS's capabilities on public roads. The MC is probably a little more fuel effiecient, but I've yet to explore that. The MC gets a spare tire, so its easier to contemplate getting real tires instead of the runflats. (The MC came with H rated tires, the MC V rated. They both got swapped for real tires.)

Apart from that the differences are external styling, the MC gets chrome (grill and boot trim), the MCS gets honeycomb grill and body coloured boot trim. The MCS gets the spoiler, and the MC spoiler is a little wimpy if you get it at all. The MCS has the chrome gas cap cover, vs the body coloured one for the MC. There are certain colours which are only available on one or other model.

Apart from the power, the differences are pretty minor.

Rear Fog(s)

Based on the recommendations inthis thread I just added the rear fog light to my MC order. My MA promised that it would not delay the shipment assuming it has not gone into production. HE said if it was too late they would just say no to the change.

Does this sound correct?

Thanks
Art
