E46 M3...circa 05 or 06.

Always been an Audi fan, but don't know what would keep me excited to drive as the MINI does other than an RS4.

It's hard to decide Peel P50 or Lotus Sport Exige

In reality, I would probably try to get used Insight "daily drive" and a 60s MGB if the wife approved. Otherwise, an old BMW 3er and get the wife a 4runner/Tacoma

Remember that if you're tall it's "*** First" if you want to get in for the Peel!

New Evo prolly...or maybe a 350z, but the lack of backseat kills that option in the wife's eyes

A Miata....or one of the latest high-mileage offerings (not a Prius)....or, if that doesn't work out, something cheap. I refuse to spend a lot of money on a car that doesn't do something well!!! The great thing about a MINI (especially a Cooper) is that it does so many things well!

I will say, though, fast cars do nothing for me.

I always thought it'd be a 1 series, but having seen and priced them it just doesn't seem interesting or worthwhile. So it'd probably be a 3 series sedan, or - more likely - the Audi A3. I'd hate to leave the BMW family (my last 4 cars were BMW) but their current U.S. lineup leaves me a bit depressed and overall the A3 is a pretty nice car.

But like findude, I am hoping that my "next car" will be none at all. Live in the city, continue working from home, get the Philly Car Share or ZipCar when I really need a car, and end the gusher of expenses and environmental destruction that is car ownership.

If you ever get a chance, take a ride in a Porsche 930, you'll change your mind. Pure blend of acceleration, power, and handling.

The last one sounds interesting....not so much the first two.
