R56 How much discount off MSRP?
California frowns upon buying cars out of state and bringing them in state. Honestly it would be more of a headache than just paying the 3k markup.
It's also nice to have the dealership you bought your car from local in case there are any issues, I don't really feel like driving 6-8 hours every time I need a loaner car. Most of the dealers out here won't loan you a car unless you bought the car from them.

Another option you have is to do the same thing I did, I know that it is absurd to think of, but wait until early next year and purchase a 2008 model comparable to what you want. I had been carefully planning on getting a MCS for around 9 months, paying off credit cards, getting my credit score above 700, so when a good deal came around I would be ready to strike. My patience paid off. I had been checking dealer websites for weeks, when finally they were having a dealer clearance on 2007 models. (I bought in Jan of 2008). I went to the dealership and there was the exact car that I had wanted (and then some). The sticker price was over $35,000 and I got it for $31,000 with only 500 miles on the odometer, plus I got 4.9% financing to boot. It does pay to be patient! Good Luck!
So there are dealers out there who will LOOSE money to stay in business?? An 11.4% discount? I may be wrong, but I'd bet a six pack that the mark-up on Mini's ain't that high. If this is true, I wonder if this car had the dreaded "second sticker" with $500.00 teflon coating, "additional" market value "adjustments", $200.00 "accent stripes", etc etc etc ad nauseum.
PLEASE, show me the paperwork! DATA! I need DATA!!!

Actually, it was all original equipment, with the exception of window tinting. I didn't believe it myself until I went home and built one online with the same packages and low and behold, it was the same price. Guess I happenned to be in the right place at the right time. As far as paperwork, unfortunately when the dealer wrote up the contract, they did not list everything as each seperate line item, so all it has on it is the original price they were asking. Of course they wanted me to spend tons of money tricking it out with their over-priced options and over-priced installation charges, but I'm no sucka!
MYTH BUSTED
I can only tell you that you should shop around if you have more than 1 dealer in your area.
Be a smart consumer , I see you have a computer, you found this forum. Use the internet .
It is easier to ask for money off by email than in person . imo
Luckily here in the tri-sate area of NJ we have 10 dealers within 100 miles.
I just purchased a regular mini with substantial <$ off MSRP >
I did not even go with the dealer that would give me the most $ off .
I went with the dealer that not only would negotiate with me but was in my opinion overall the better dealership.( fair for us both )
I now will have access to the loaner car when car needs service and free car washes.

This is exactly my point. I'm wondering how many of these steep "discounts" are actually cleverly "bundled" with absurd upcharges (like $800.00 bras, $500.00 "Doc Fees", Low Ball trades, yadda yadda yadda).
That's why I wanna see an actual transaction on PAPER. It's one thing to get an email promising a "discount" but then end up seeing a $600.00 Doc Fee on the paperwork. Some people don't even realize they're being hosed by stuff like this.

Sorry for bringing this thread back to life - I've e-mailed a couple of dealerships around me in CT. Inskip Mini offered me no discount -
Then Mini of Fairfield offered -
Hello Tom,
Ok, if we order this MINI, it will be for July delivery.
MSRP of the MINI is $25,300-$300 discount+free mats. If cash deal, it will be $26,901.50( that includes taxes, reg.fee, doc.fee, and plates).
Please, let me know if you want to order it, and/or if you'll have questions for me.
Best Regards,
--- I'm waiting for Inskip's reply. I also e-mailed the internet sales manager of Fairfield and he offered me only $200 of MSRP.

I've finally come around to doing a little math, I could be wrong, but it seems like the dealership with the discount has a doc fee almost 3 times the one with no discount, so such a similarity in price.
I got both our MCS's for below MSRP in California. The max I manged to get off so far was well over 1000.00. Our dealer worked their ***** off to get the deal going both times. Both custom setups with 5 miles on the clock. They did such a good job with us, that they made at least 5 more sales shortly after with our friends.
Shop around. Discounts are available and if they will not discount, they will trade on accessories. Do not take the first or second offer on the table.
I can haggle till cows fly and pig spit milk .....

Hey morbius.. I live on the central coast, ca... want to share your dealership & name with me? I'm in the market for a car, and the mini has won. Now I just need to find a dealer that doesn't blow smoke up my butt...
Struggle? I just don't believe most these tall tales of enticing off-msrp discounts unless the car is a never-titled demo or its end of model year and there is an excess of dealer stock. Otherwise, show me the actual sales receipt, because I dont beleive anyone, especially the $4K off "story." What BS that is!!

I had been shopping around for a 2008 Cooper for a couple weeks with no luck. Luckily I live in an area with 4 Mini dealerships around, and just by calling around one afternoon I managed to get $1000 off. When I went to purchase the car, the dealership wouldn't accept my CapitalOne check, so they gave me an additional $540 off. I ended up financing through their bank for an even lower APR than with CapitalOne!
It's all a matter of location and sheer luck!
they even threw in the car mats!

hrm
I bought my MC days before the new year, and i did some calling around and the best deal i got was 1500 or 2000 off MSRP. But my local dealer (20 miles) offered 850 off.
you guys are good. im in northern california and getting them to not do the 2500 over sticker markup is like pulling teeth already. dealers nearby me (san francisco bay area) will not budge a dime under MSRP... and trust me, i did my homework. maybe i should've tried a few places out of state.
Where did you end up purchasing the car? Did you have to order one?
I am also in the bay area and looking to buy soon.
It seems to me that those who did get their MINI for less than MSRP, should also state whether they did a trade-in or not. Dealers make much more $$ on trade-ins and possibly dealer financing than they do on selling new cars. So if they got an unbelievable deal below off MSRP, perhaps they got a less than stellar deal on their trade-in?
For the record, I got mine for MSRP. No trade-in, no financing.

I purchased a JCW with many options and some dealer parts...my discount was $00.00 no matter how hard I tried. I called the dealer to the North of me and they offered me the same deal. My car total with all taxes was $36,674, I finally got the sales girl to throw a set of mats in..you did good.
