Yesterday I noticed a lot of smoke coming out of my inner tire when cornering (very) hard. I have the optional LSD on my R55 S.

What is the locking ratio? 20 %

Seriously the smoke was immense!

Anyone?

 

The word "very" is relative. A smoking tire indicates that you were spinning the wheel out of the corner, which implies you went into the corner at rather high revs... like 5000 rpm or more?

I have never seen my MINI do that, and I have the cheesy all-season runflats, but then I haven't gone around a corner very fast, just fast...

Full-lock 2nd gear and mash the throttle did the trick

 

You were burning that one tire, but the other one was pulling you through the turn. As for a percentage, I have no Idea. I've driven cars with "better" LSD's, but for $500 factory installed, you can't beat it.
