OEM Driving Lamps and 3M Question

OK, so I am planning on getting the 3M stuff put on at delivery, but looking at the OEM driving lamp install instructions, I think I could do it. So the question is... Since you have to swap the grill for the driving lamps, will I have to wait to do the 3M or does the 3M stuff not cover the grill or get in the way?

I'd much rather not drive the car at all without the 3m stuff on so that I don't get any rock chips, but don't want to pay $900 for installed driving lamps when I could do it for 4-500 myself in an hour or so.

Also is the "hardware" for the lamps stainless. I don't want it looking like "crap" when you look upclose after 4-5 years of ourdoor driving.
