This would be the kind of safety issue I'd expect MINI to jump all over. A jury awarded some lady $300K from McDonald's for spilling hot coffee on her lap; you'd think MINI would show more concern about the potential for customers to get burned. Modern automobiles should not be able to burn customers' feet under normal usage conditions.
It's actually illegal to drive barefoot in CA. It would seem to me that MINI didn't design the car with preventing burns on peoples feet in mind (Since the majority of us wear shoes when we drive...).

The source I saw was effective 1992 I believe. Actually in ANY state it can be considered careless driving (Quite a few people have gotten tickets for this). DOT also has several laws in place about driving with proper foot protection.

It's not illegal to drive barefoot in California. That's a myth.

There are lots of funny motoring laws in Ca. It's illegal for motorcyclists to wear earplugs, yet a deaf person can legally ride a motorcycle. I've never heard of a barefoot law but it wouldn't surprise me.

The coffee from McDonals is a wrongly quoted case...

The McDonalds in question had burnt many people by basically serving boiling coffee. They had ignored complaints for a while, and someone took them to court more for ignoring past offences and injury than just "serving hot coffee".

The notion that anyone without deep pockets can sue over this is laughable. Independant of what's right, the big companies with deep pockets will just grind the small guy down over time. Sure you can get your fees awarded IF you previal, but you have to pay them first. IT's just not worth it.

File the complaint, fix your car yourself, and get on with the more important things in life....
