Maintainence issues anyone?

Anyone liike to share his/her experiences with maintainence issues on either models in the last couple of years since possession of ownership? Just trying to get a grip on things to see if the Brits are any better or worse than other manufacturers. Way back when I owned MGs (British Leyland), definitely not a dependable vehicle .

I know it's been a long time in the past, but don;t want to be discouraged after dishing out $28K. Probably be doing 70 miles a day of driving with a Copper S.
  1. Good
  2. Average
  3. Bad

I've had my '06 R53 for 1 year and 27,000 mi...

My maintience issues that Mini has corrected has been this:

Oil change when picking up the car.
dash squeak fixed when dropping car off for Service I.
Replaced stress-cracked windshield (and thus fixed pitting)...

total out-of-pocket cost: $0.
I had a loaner for the last 2 service stops, an 07 Cooper Auto, and an 08 Convertible S manual. (but it rained for my time with it).

I drive 100mi /day and give it a Superior grade...

I had MGs too, although the $500 kind.
They come new from the factory broken.

I don't have the S. But so far, 11k miles, no
mechanical problems whatsoever. I have not
even had any of the fit and finish problems mentioned
on this site (no squeeky dash).

Even consumer reports gave the mini really good grades.
(didn't get to see the article in person that is hearsay)

I've heard from the guy I used to get my used cars from he
sells a lot of cars, that jaguar and range rovers are not a
vehicle to get (unless you like having a car in the shop again
and again).

7500 miles/smiles and no issues. Seems very well put together. 31-33 mpg despite my heavy right foot with a MCS. It's all good so far.

We're averaging 135 miles per day since our pickup in November, without a complaint. 33.6 MPG (per the OBC) with an MCS.

Well that's pretty assuring. I was getting pretty paranoid after reading WindPower's problem with his engine blown for no apparent reason and dealer sticking it to him with the full bill!! What's up with that?? Even if he did over-rev, we're not in Formula-1 racing. Car should be able to handle that type of situation. Pretty sad don;t you think??

In 6,000 miles and 10 months, my MCS has been back to the shop for a software update, and because the color of the scoop didn't exactly match the color of the bonnet. My car probably got re-sprayed at the VDC after its voyage across the pond. Otherwise, it has been good.

I've only had my MCS for a couple months, but the only thing I've noticed was a clip that snaps the 2 pieces of wheel arch together (rear driver-side) was missing. It was quickly replaced free of charge. Also, the car had a scratch on it when I took deliver, but that was fixed at no charge and I was given a Cooper loaner. Even with the JCW engine kit and a frequent heavy foot, I'm averaging 33.5 MPG, but I will say that without the back seat the exhaust can get a little loud when the car's under load! I don't mind it, but my husband says it "damages his calm". (Good thing it's not his car!)

Just did the third oil change (Mobil 1, 0W40) on my 07 MCS. 10K fun-filled miles, zero problems, not even a rattle. Motor on.

I picked up at the end of May 2007 and have just over 9,000 miles. After driving a couple of days the tire pressure warning went off. I checked the pressure and one tire was overinflated (no real problem, but the dealer should have caught this). The clips holding on the passenger door panel were broken, probably on delivery. My local dealer replaced the clips and provided a loaner car. So far so good. I had the same concerns you do, but look at all the MINIs on the road. Just like Hondas I don't really see them on the side of the road broken. I ordered almost a year ago and would happily do so again.

Currently on my third MINI. Both my previous '03 MC and '05 MCS with routine maintenance(and 91+ recommended octane gas!) sold with over 100,000k and had NO mechanical problems. My latest has 21,000k since Oct.07 with not even so much as a rattle. No complaints here!!

Go to any forum on any car and you'll see cars blowing up and burning down. It's just the luck of the draw... No issues here and very happy with my Mini.
