Is this normal?

I just noticed that mostly when I have my headlights on my fuel gauge gradually dims, then gets brighter. Dims, then gets brighter.

Is this normal? Or am I going to be making my first unscheduled service visit?

I have three R56 MINIs in my family and I've noticed all three do this.. I wondered if there is a light sensor somewhere so the gauges dim or brighten depending on how light it is outside - so it's easier on the eyes at night?

sounds pretty normal to me. your car seems to be using more power at times then others due to loads on the system and gets dim then the alternator ups the amperage and they get bright agian.

Yes, there is a light sensor in the tachometer. It is the little black circle above the trip reset button.

Mmmm. Maybe this is my issue:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=110719

However, my dimming seems to occur independent of whether my lights are on. Also, it seems the dimming coincides w/ the satellite radio dropping out, which lends me to think lvbltec is on to something..

Will keep observing. Hasnt been too much of a problem lately. Hope this helps someone else.
