Karma is a...

sorry for the rant, but i know i'm not the only one

I got my car broken into tuesday morning. the thieves busted my passenger side window (glass in every square inch of the interior, including glass on the windshield, and on the top of the car) they stole my iphone and random cds.

there is a special place in hell for people like this.!!

I heard the crash of the glass and looked out my window, saw the 3 teenage thugs run into the darkness up the street. i go outside to see the damage. oh well.

the damage

370 bucks for install new glass at rassmussen mini
-400 for iphone
10-12 missing cds

att and apple are aware the phone was stolen and there is a flag on phone so if anyone tries to activate my phone they need to call att for info to reactivate. hopefully they get in trouble, and i get my phone back.

but most likely will never get the phone back.

ouch, sorry to hear that. At least they broke a window to get in and didn't jimmy with the lock and scratch up the paint and handle, not much consolation but will probably save you a few bucks

This is exactly why I keep one of my guns loaded on my night stand.

the thing is i live in a pretty nice area. I never even locked my house until now.

but in all reality it was totally my fault leaving the phone under the e-brake. but forgot to bring it inside. if the guys never seen the phone they probably would have never done anything to begin with.

but i am glad i didn't have a gun, i probably would have done something i regret. a paintball gun would have been nice tho.

i saw the three guys one had a dog with them. i figure they live in my neighborhood, i going to start going on walks at night.

One of the very reasons why I keep everything out of sight in my car... It's either in the boot, the glovebox or left at home.

My wife had the same smash and grab done to her some 10 years ago... jimmy'd the lock, destroyed the radio trying to remove it and stole 20-30 CDs that were scattered across the floor. They also got 2 of the other 3 cars in the same driveway and stole a radar detector, a camera and CDs from them. The only car not broken into... mine... it was completely clean on the inside and just happened to be the only car with anything of real value inside ($2000 laptop in the trunk).

Good luck on finding the iPhone. A friend of mine recently got her stolen cell phone back when someone tried to activate it, so you might get lucky!

Your homeowners insurance may pay for the damage. We had stuff stolen from my wifes car years ago and they paid us for it.

If you live in a nice area, its easier to take from, people who live in rich areas think nothing is going to happen so they leave stuff in their cars or unlocked, and thats when the thugs and theives go and steal, cuz they know that areas where its wealthy people will think of nothing bad happening there and think its safe, if i was to steal, thats where i would go.

Man that's terrible. Sorry to hear. Your insurance is probably a $500 - $1000 deducible too.

yea my 500 deductible wasn't worth claiming, when the window is 370. plus i have pretty cheap insurance don't want it to go up.

i don't have renters/homeowners insurance, which would be good in this situation.

whatever, they will get theirs soon enough

Sorry to hear it, man. This is the main reason I'm always poking my wife in the ear to keep the interior absolutely empty of anything and everything, and we live in a pretty fancy schmancy area of town, too.

Well, there always will be some teenagers everywhere regardless of the "quality" of your neighborhood. I didn't have any problem with the mini so far, but when I had RX-8, I caught some teenagers who were about to throw eggs at my car (my dad's car couldn't be saved ) and block the exhaust pipe with some hefty rocks. You are very lucky to only have your windows damaged.

Sorry to hear about this, it's happened to me before back home. However as you seem to realise now if you leave a $400 iPhone or anything else of value in plain sight in your car you're asking for it to be nicked. Moral of the story is make sure the only thing visible in your car when you leave it is the interior.

it always sucks to have some heathens disrespect other people's property like this...but it happens to all of us...sometimes even when you don't leave anything in sight.

lesson most of us learn the hard way is to not leave ANYTHING in the car...even if it is in the glove box. my thinking is why 'reward' some jerk that breaks into my car. i got the oem alarm on my mini just for this reason, esp since i don't live in the best of areas and car thefts/break-ins are numerous. sure, the alarm won't do much but i have noticed that my room mates cars have been broken into and mine left untouched and none of them had alarms. thieves will go for the easier target in general.

i have been leaving stuff in the secret compartment though because i assume most thieves are too dumb to realize it opens...that is what i hope anyway!

even with a gun...you're right...it is not worth it to kill someone over property, as that is something that you will have to live with for the rest of your life.

Co-worker of mine's brother had 50+ CDs stolen out of his car. His project to stop that from happening again?

He burned the 50+ cds from MP3s and between each track inserted his voice saying "This CD is stolen."

Now when the thieves steal his CD collection not only will he only be out the cost and time of burning blank media but the thieves will be reminded between every track just exactly how they got that disc.

my friend had his cars broken into once every year in chico. he finally stopped installing aftermarket radios into his car AND put all his stuff into the trunk instead of laying em them out on the seats for the whole world to see. the break-ins finally stopped.

Had the after-market Pioneer stereo and some cd's stolen out the our Nissan a few years ago on Christmas Eve. Wasn't covered under home-owners and we didn't have full-coverage on the car, so we couldn't file a claim. And the cop that took the report tells us, "Well, if you happen to see it in the pawn shop, let us know." Hmm, isn't that their job? Anyway, someone got a nice stereo for Christmas, I reckon...

Unfortunately, it happens. In a perfect world, we could leave our houses and cars open because it's OUR property, we're the ones who have worked our butts off for it, and it's no one else's, but this sure ain't no perfect world!

??!

Some thieves have been working our neighborhood lately. My neighbor, who owns a real estate office, had a computer stolen. No break-in--just opened the door. Amazing! Didn't know anyone left their car unlocked these days, no matter what kind of neighborhood.

I have nothing of value in my car but 4 or 5 months ago someone just smashed my windshield for no reason. I wish I knew who it was so I could break my hands on their face.

I may be judged on this one, but some punk breaks into my car and steals stuff that I WORKED AND PAID for, I'd have absolutely no problem shooting him... and I'd sleep well at night knowing there was one less criminal to terrorize people. Breaking into cars today means rape and murder tomorrow... That's the problem with the world today, nobody gets punished when they do wrong... and it's ALWAYS somebody else's fault. NO RESPONSIBILITY at all...

I think most ppl agree with you Mark, they just don't want
to sound too politically incorrect.

A guy I knew in HS had his radio stolen.
When he put the next one in he put all these
(dont know the word) 3 pronged fishing hooks
wired all up under the dash.

He said he came out after a breakin (not sure that
night or in the morning its been a long time) and there
was "meat hanging off all the hooks"
