My Product Advisor is clueless

So I'm about to pull the trigger on a Mini Cooper and my product advisor is really misinformed about the 2nd generation Mini.

1st it was getting the Roof Rack uninstalled.
ME: How much is it?
PA: $436 CDN
ME: How much uninstalled?
PA:"Oh you don't want to drill holes in the roof”
ME: Actually, you don’t need to anymore.
PA; “What!”
ME: Yeah, the new ones you don’t have to.
PA: Wow you know more about the car than I do.

The guy also wanted $129 CDN to install it. Regular price is $307 CDN from parts

Then the Ipod Adapter

ME: So how much is it to get it?
PA: $800 CDN installed
ME: Wow that’s a lot of money
PA: It’s $500 CDN uninstalled but we need to install at the service department for $300 CDN
ME: What do they need to the car?
PA: I don’t know…
ME: Can you find out please….

Can someone please tell me what the service department does to the car to install the adaptor. I would love to change songs on the wheel while driving. Is it possible to do it yourself? Coming from a VW background. You can use VAG-COM to make changes to your car. Why is the Mini more difficult.

Just get the bluetooth package. It comes with a USB port that allows the ipod to connect to the stereo. It's a lot cheaper than the adapter though it might not look as professional.

This is partly the whole reason I waited until the 08's.

Only problem is that I'm getting a remaining 07 because it's a better deal.

The ipod adapter installs behind the secret compartment. The tech will need to disassemble the surrounding area, install the control unit and cable, put everything back together and then code it into the car's SW.

I was quoted $235 US to do the labor. $500 total with the parts and labor.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, we got the iPod adapter too. Wasn't cheap, but it sure works nice w/ the radio and the steering wheel!

Speaking of clueless M.A.s, I was thinking what a sweet job selling Minis might be... you know, the whole "they sell themselves" bit...

If you don't need the convenience of the steering wheel you still have the aux input below the radio.
