Splash guards a MUST if...

Okay, if you value the condition of your rear fender flares, then you must get the the front splash guards (mud flaps). I just installed a set of 4 splash guards to my R56 S yesterday and I've noticed that leading edges on the rear flares are already nicked/chewed up. This after only 2 months after delivery!! 2 months?! Now, I have driven through a couple snowstorms so far this winter so I attribute the damage to rock salt, as I've never been on a dirt road.

Just by looking at the installed front guard, I can tell it will help deflect any rock-like debris. I can't imagine how bad the rear flares would look like it, in say, 2 years from now. I predict R56 S owners with 17 inch or larger rims will be having to replace (if they're as **** as me) the rear flares in 2 years or less. I have the 17 inch "Crown Spokes" though I imagine the 16 inch rims may cause less damage since they sit further in the fender well. My last R50 had the 16 inch 5 Star rim and yes, the rear flares got chewed up also, but not as much in 2 months as my R56 S.

The front guards actually look really nice, but the look of the rears will take awhile to get used to as they really change the lines of the rear of the car. So thats my story and I hope this will help convince someone sitting on the fence deciding whether or not to get the them. Go on get them! Cheers.

You can get a set of rear mud flaps for the front. Thats what I did and they fit fine and offer more protection. They flare out a little more / \ like that. I don't have any pics hands but will see what I can do.

It's not absolutely neccessary to remove wheels, it can be done without that step.

Not sure if there will be any difference between the different rim sizes. the 16" rim/tire and the 17" rim/tire are almost the exactly the same diameter. The 16" tire has a larger sidewall to make up for the lost inch in rim size.

not only will the mud faps save the rear fender fares, theywill make it a lot easier to keep the rocker panel clean and unknicked. I will save a lot of time cleanng up tar drops and yellow paint when you drive over the freshly painted centerlines!

The mud flaps are a very practical and effective addition to any MINI.

I'd get both....protects from rocks and keeps the car cleaner. Very practical.

Adding the mud flaps are going to be my first mod attempt, though I'm holding out until the weather warms up a bit.

Mud flaps can not be installed in combination with the JCW Aero Kit or the Hyper Sport Aero Kit.

I'd say Morristown MINI just because their prices are discounted. Any MINI dealer should have them though. Out Motoring sells them as well.

Classic MINI in Cleveland also has them discounted. They're relatively cheap for the set (something like $55), so you might want to make sure that you're actually saving money (Cost - Discount + Shipping >=< Cost + Tax) ordering online versus just getting them from your local dealer.

Can anyone comment on whether or not they reduce the amount of dirt and overall crap that gets kicked up onto the rear of the car?

Rear Mud flaps on front. I drive 120 miles/day not one chip in front of the rear wheel.

Nice-
Was it as easy to install the rear on the front as installing a front flap on the front would be?

Thanks for the pic. I think that looks pretty good. A little more rugged/aggressive looking than the front flaps. Do you have a shot from behind, say, looking along the side of the car so we can see how much 'flare' ?

Also (off topic), why is your bottom trim piece body color instead of black? Did you paint it or did it come that way? Mine is black.

I will post a rear shot for you. There is a little flare out to it. I think this could be fixed if I re-adjusted the mounting locations. Unless you know Mini’s you wouldn’t even notice anything different. Also I have the Factory Aero-kit this gives me painted side skirts and different front and rear bumper.
