I really like the blue accent too, definitely completes the look.

just to back Celia up, The past week has been raining quite hard in sacramento and ive experienced NO problems with leaking. As Celia already stated, the sealant is VERY tacky. In fact, without even using heat, when the sealant made made contact with itself, it already bonded a good amount. the head just helps it spread itself out better.

God thats hot. I with these pics and your testament to how easy it is i might get my wife to let me do this finally.*HUGE* BUT since you and ghosthound didn't take ANY pictures, could some one at lease type up a how to on this so we know what to expect on the removal and disassembly. It makes problems for-see-able and it stresses the wife out a bit less when we have a how-to to follow.

It stayed tacky the entire time we had the two halves apart. I'm not sure what that stuff is but it works great for resealing. There's definitely no need to apply any sort of new or additional adhesive when re-assembling the headlights!


I was so excited doing the mod that I just didn't get a chance to take any photos. But if you do a search, you should be able to come across a couple of links with pictures. Here is one on an R53 with photos and a complete write-up. I think everyone says it's even easier to do on the R56...

I have the Xenons.

 

You can do it to either type of headlight.

No, you don't paint the reflective part that distributes the light. You are just painting the decorative parts within the headlight that don't function as light output.

You can see in this pic that they left the reflective area for the turn blinker un-painted so that it can still function as normal.

 

Ahhhh, I see. Thanks for the info. This mod is incredible!! My Mini hasn't even begun production and I've already got a million ways to mod it...this car is going to be fun.

Whew! Awesome mod Cecilia. Almost enough to make me want to move to Louisiana Ms. Celia, but I'm already married to a Cajun. You are raising the bar for a lot of folks here. You inspired me to do a couple for you. It's real Hayame cf on the side markers and a boot protector (I didn't like the rubber one offered by some). This cf matches the JCW cf and is easy to use. Let me know what you think.

what paint did you use for the innner ring? how close is it to matching the body color? also is there a special type of paint you use for like heat, expansion and contraction? thanks

its a very simple process and the hardest part by far is just getting enough nerve to rip open your headlights. Once you get them open, you realize how (relatively) simple this is.

I am sure celia will back me up when i say this is probably one of the cheapest and most satisfying mods you can do. It really gives the car a mean look.

i was wondering what peoples take would be for the halogen (non xenons) to have a joey mod be done in pepper white?

before i wanted to do it in black, but i realized i would have to leave the big scoop the light goes in stay chrome because it would not reflect.

But now im thinking that possible the pepper white would reflect enough to allow the whole thing to be done?

Anyone have any input on it?
