R56 Windshield Defost?
Windshield Defost?
I've noticed that when I press the defrost button for the windshield, it automatically turns the fan on HI -- If I try to adjust the fan speed down OR click on the controls for other vents (floor, front, etc), it turns off the defrost.
Is this a malfunction? Does the defrost only operate by itself and in high fan speed?
Just curious.

All the defrost button does is set it to full fan speed, all air flow to the windshield, and full hot. If you want to do the same thing, but with a lower fan speed just set your air flow control to only direct up, and set the heat to high. Then adjust the fan to your liking.
On my BMW hitting the defrost button was sometimes the only way into tricking the auto AC into giving you properly hot air.

If you push the defrost button & hold it for for a few seconds you then can adjust the fan speed to any level you want.

I concur. I have a 2004 accord EX-L, I wish it didn't have auto AC and dual climate zones.

Instead of using the auto defrost button on the upper left, use the button on the right that has the symbol that points up. This will send air to the defrost vents and you have full control over the fan speed. The auto AC is a pita. BTW, holding the button for a few seconds as suggested above does not work for the '05 and '06 MCS.
Possible windshield defrost problem
Just bought my Mini in Spring and noticed that when I recently put the windshield defrost on that it didn't put out the usual blast of hot air that you normally expect but the fan speed did go to high.
Is this normal?
