R56 Gear grinding from 1st to 2nd
Gear grinding from 1st to 2nd
Ive had my '07 MC since September. From time to time when i shift from 1st to 2nd with the clutch fully pushed in you hear a grinding sound. I don't know if that can be the synchros. Anyone have a clue as to what it can be?
I had something similar in a car I once owned. It was the clutch slave cylinder. I'd get it to the dealer right away and have them check it while it's under warranty. The part's not that expensive but I'm sure the labor is.
yeah I agree i know i hear stuff in my gear box (not that load and probably just the normal noise it makes when the gears are reached), but i dont know exactly what noise is normal and what is bad
I know what you mean....only problem is that its kind of hard to record a random sound... I never know when it will make it. Sometimes it can go a couple of days without hearing it.

i picked up my 08 mcs last week and i heard the noise the night i drove it off the lot, i'm going to have my camera record my drives and the gearbox and hope the car duplicates the sound, ill post if i have any luck
You wouldn't happen to have a bulletin number would you? I took delivery last April, just passed US 22,280 miles this morning, warranty will be coming up too soon!
I have the same thing happen when it's cold, despite letting my R56 warm up before driving away. Seems to be synchros as I'm Very Conscientious about flooring the clutch before the 1 > 2 shift @ around 4K.

There's a whole thread on this in the Issues section:

I had this from the moment I got mine last spring, and they to replaced the transmission at 5000 miles. It happened EVERY time I drove, the first few times I shifted from 1st to 2nd. If it's happening a lot, take it to your dealer.

thanks for the link, not happening as much as some of the guys on that thread, thankfully...i would hate to have to replace a transmission, i dont even have 600miles on the car yet
wooow I was just thinking about putting a thread about this sound, it happens to me almost every morning I go to my college, at first I got scared but I see it not only happens to me, I'm gonna ask My dealer see if they know anything.
