"Low Mileage" Service?

Although I purchased my car in July 07, I think it must have arrived at the dealer in Feb 07, as the inspection sticker was date February and the service indicator has the month of Feb.

So I called today to schedule an inspection (Mini are doing it for free as I lost 5 months worth) and also my first service, thinking that although my mileage is only at 9k, in terms of the date it is probably due. This will be its first oil change. The guy who booked my appointment said we will schedule you for a "low mileage" service - does anyone know what this means exactly? Am I better of waiting until the mileage countdown indicates I need the service rather than going by the data?

Nigel got one of those last week. My SA said they just drained the oil but didn't do anything else. They also didn't reset the Service Indicator, so he'll get the full service in ~6000mi

my mini has a build date of 02/07 as well. I will be calling to set up my service also. A bit more miles though. I will have about 13k so I wonder if I will get the full one or not.

I think my build date was Feb 07 as well (purchased in April, 10k now). So you think I can get some type of free service 1 year after it's built? How did you find out about that?

I had mine serviced at a year which was a "MINI" service lol and consisted of an oil change and they just checked everything over....they did not reset the counter so I will get a full service in about another 2800 miles or so.

A year from what? How did you learn the build date, did you use the OBC secret code or what?

I know my build date 3/06 and took delivery in April 2006 so one year from my delivery I was in for service at the advisement of my MINI dealer. If you bought your MINI new I would say it would be from the date that you took delivery...if it was a previously enjoyed MINI then I think it would go by the original delivery date from the original owner but don't quote me on that part.

My Mini from Sept 07 now has 9500 miles on it. The odometer has been reading 9000 miles for a couple of months now and I have my first service appointment this Saturday, before the mileage would have gone 1000 over, so I guess I will be getting the "low milage" service.

Just this morning the service note at startup said 8000 miles on it, so I may now be screwed as far as my warranty. Keep an eye on your odometer, folks!

hey here is something to ease your mind. my fiance and me are friends with the head mechanic at our dealership and actually asked about this. he advised us that that is how many more miles you have before your service is necessary. yes the number might seem completely insane but thats what we were told. we were told either the mileage or the one year mark whatever came first. hope this helps!

Yeah.... I knew that! Yep!
Anyway, she has to go in for the 9k miles tire rotation so maybe they don't need to do the oil change after all. Just going to go stand over here....

I still don't get how you can wait that long to change the oil. Not me...I'll probably do it myself.

it might sound strange to you, i mean it was like a total shock for me. but the mechanic that works at the mini i purchased my car at is also helping us if we need help installing some of our mods (obviously not at the dealer) so i dont think he would have a reason to tell us this unless it was true. like i said he recomended we either do it when we get to the recomended mileage or we do it after a year. oil changes are not that cheap so im opting out of doing it myself as long as the warranty still covers it.
