R56 Nice comment today
Nice comment today
Was filling up with gas and a guy comes over and says: "I've always admired these cars. And that's the best color combination I've ever seen." Anybody else get favorable comments like that from strangers about their Minis?

Yup I get the same thing about my sparkling silver coloured Mini. People seem to just love these cars and since they aren't real common in the Detroit area I'm always getting questions and compliments as well as thumbs up from other motorist. Always makes the day a bit better.
There's even less of these babies north in Michigan (Bay City / Midland / Saginaw). I've heard "cute", "Sweeet!", "Awesome", and of course have turned a lot of heads!
Let's face it - the MINI is a head turning, eye catching, Machine. That's one of the reasons we bought one!

I get comments on it all the time, pretty much every time I get gas. Once I was headed to a grocery store, an old man followed me around the parking lot and then parked next to me (it was kind of spooky), but he just want to ask a bunch of questions about it.
I drive a SS/B Mini and I get comments, from people I know all the time, it is usually somthing like
"so you were at the supermarket today" or "I saw you at the Library yesterday" you see I'm the only SS/B in my town and wherever they see a SS/B Mini they just know it's me, funny thing is that they are always right it's never anyone else....small towns...gotta love it... bad car to be incognito in

I was filling up at a local gas station a few months ago when a rather rough-looking man walked up. Given the poor shape of his clothes and his generally unkempt appearance, I expected to be dunned for some change. Nope--he pointed to the S on my car and said, jokingly, "does this S stand for Sixty Miles per Gallon?" He went on to say how much he liked the MINI--left me smiling.
And then he went into the station with his free-refill jumbo cup and got himself some coffee...

It's almost impossible to leave a filling station without somebody wanting to sit in the car...
And I met about a bazillion British tourists and expatriots on vacation that wanted to chat about them --- all had stories about their prior Minis.
Talk about misty-eyed.

The other day I was in a university parking lot and a maintenance man drove up. He watched me so intently as I parked that I was afraid I was in the wrong lot. Nope--as I got out of the car he said, "You're the first person I've seen get out of one of those things." Apparently he'd seen them around campus, but always vacant. I invited him to sit in the car, and he was amazed at the room. We talked mpg and price and stuff, and he seemed pretty interested.
re: compliments & getting used to my MINI
I'm only 2-weeks old in my MINI. Lovin' it!!!!!!!
Although, two days ago (stupid me) locked my keys (i.e. keyfob) in the car. Awesome MINI Roadside Assistance program, so called with my SOS!!
Nice guy pulls up in a AAA truck. First comment from him was, "I've always LOVED these little cars!" ;-)
Long story short...it was a really nice compliment and made me proud to be the 'idiot' owner of my 'locked-out' MINI. He told me I would have to sign a waiver cuz the only way to get me back in the car would likely end up in him having to break a window (these MINI's are rock-solid once they are locked!). My last vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler which, if you even bothered to lock it, you could always 'unzip' the windows to gain access. So, to put it mildly, I'm not used to all this technology!
Thanked him for the compliment .... called Mom .... got a ride back to my house to get my xtra key-fob and MINI is home safe again.
whew.

We got our DS/M Mini for Christmas & hid it in the garage till Christmas morning. Then we rolled it out & the neighbors came over in seconds with tonnes of questions & "isn't that just the cutest car"? njp
