I ride 50 miles each way to work, but I wouldn't think of putting anything but Shell premium in the tank. Filling once a week, I would only save a couple of bucks and I'd rather use that as insurance that my Mini will motor on in good health.

Re: runflats, I'm lucky to live across the street from an STS which was recommended by my MA to go with my road hazard warranty. They handle the runflats just fine.

I'm confused.. and I accidently hit my dsc button with a cup this morning. Now I'm not sure if it is off or on. So, if the light is on, then it is off, but you want it on, right so you want the light off?

 

Well, first of all, you have to hold the button down for a few seconds--you probably didn't turn it off. Second, there is an icon (triangle with an arrow around a circle) that lights up in the warning light panel in front of you. And third, it reboots into the default DSC-on mode when you relight the engine...

And yes, if the light is on, the DSC is off (hence the warning).

 

well, the light is on that says DSC off, and I have restarted the engine since I hit the button. But, the warning light you're talking about didn't come on, not that I noticed.

 

Ok, now you've got ME confused!

If you have that warning light (triangle/arrow), your DSC isn't working, or has been turned off.

If you don't see any symbol, the DSC is presumed to be working, which is what I'd expect if you restarted the engine.

There is one other possibility IF you do have a warning light (triangle/arrow). If it's combined with a parking-brake-on warning (says "brake"), the turn signals not cancelling and also possibly the windshield wipers acting a little weird--the SZL is defective. That has had to be replaced on a number of the R56s (no big deal). But that's not what you're describing.

But to make it simple, when warming light is on(yellow "!" with an arrow around it), your DSC is off.

Push the DSC button for a few seconds and see how it works out? It should turn the DSC on/off by looking at the computer in front of you.

Had me confused for the first couple of days.

Think of it this way--a warning light goes on when something is wrong. In this case, it means the DSC ISN'T working--either because it's broken, or because you've turned it off, like for an autocross*.

*Speaking of which, I found I was slower with it off this past weekend--surprised me a lot. Of course, there are other factors for best times in an autocross. And I get lousy times, anyway...

 

I'll go check it later and get back to you. But right now the button light is on DSC Off, but there is no triangle warning light anywhwere. I told my service guy. When I bought the car the SM told me not to touch that button because if I turned it off I wouldn't be able to turn it back on, they had an upgrade coming that would need to be done later. When I went in for my first service a few weeks ago, I mentioned this to the service advisor, he'd never heard of such a thing. Today I called to tell him about the light saying DSC off being on, he said he couldn't find any alerts about the previously mentioned issue, or any reason why it would say off after cutting the engine. He's supposed to get back to me today.

 

I've been using midgrade. If I go to premium, do I need to wait until my tank is pretty empty, or is it okay to mix?
