ordering a vanity plate for California

Those of you from California who ordered personalized plates with the new car, how did you go about doing that? I just went on the DMV site and I saw where you can order a personalized plate, but I thought it strange that it didn't ask for a VIN number. I'm awaiting delivery of my new MCS in mid-January and I want to make sure that I get a personalized plate for it.

any advice? thanks!

LITTLE

I tried for BIJOU, but it had already taken. I'd love to know what car is carrying that plate. For those who do not know the word, it means something small and precious.

But I'm happy with "LITTLE." It's given a few people chuckles, is distinctive, and it is the easiest to recall of any plate I've ever had.

Happy motoring, by any name,

Joe

I'm 6' tall and get a ton of laughs getting in and out of my mini. I won the award at Classic Mini's Rally last summer --- Most Creative Vanity Plate

GO K4RT

haha, funny I saw this thread. I am planning to purchase a Mini Cooper S in 2009 and I currently drive an Audi A3.

I ordered a custom plate for GO K4RT. I will use it on my A3 till I transfer it to the Mini in 2009.

GO KART was already taken. ;(

The plates are independent of the car. You may order the plates and use them on anything. When you get the note in the mail saying that your local DMV has the plates, bring your old plates and your registration with you.

If you belong to the Auto Club, that's the easiest way to purchase the plates other than going on line and picking the plates at the DMV which is always such a pleasure..good luck

thanks, <mini>
I don't have any other plates from an older car to trade for the personalized one, so do I just tell the dealer in advance so they don't order new plates.

The dealer has to register the car and you get new plates from the DMV sent to you,you can the take the vanity plates that you have ordered back to the DMV or the Auto Club and have them switched out...but you have to wait until you get the plates for the new car..

Great, thanks everyone for your help. I've ordered the vanity plate, and will make the exchange with the new plate that the DMV first gives me.

Our MCS Cabrio won't even be here for another couple of months, but I'm getting ready for top-down motoring!

I think I posted something like this to the other thread like it...

I really need to take a pic of both my veh side by side (yeah, means I have to clean them first!!!):

my MCS has: xUHOHx
my Truck has: TRUUBLE

I'm sorry, but it totally cracks me up every time I think about it....and I get stopped allllllllll the time.

I tried to get MINIAACK but Ohio wouldn't let me -- said it was too much like maniac, and was "inappropriate and discriminating." They JUST don't understand...

ANyway, one of my other choices was: WHRSTHKY -- where's the [windup] key
