R56 LSD Question
LSD Question
I just bought an 07 MCS (pepper white) on Tuesday and until this week had never been in an MC of any kind. I was instantly hooked!
I bought the car from the dealership as is, and it didn't have the LSD option -- which I didn't know anything about until AFTER I bought the car.
I understand the basics of what LSD does for the vehicle, but my question is... can slip differential be easily added to the car if it wasn't added by the factory?
And does LSD make that much difference? I do notice that the car tends to 'pull' a little to one side when giving it a lot of gas. I'm assuming LSD would smooth this out a bit and distribute the torque to both front wheels more equally. (Is that correct?)
Thanks!

It will cost you close to $1000 including labor. And it will disappoint you as you will still feel the torque steer if that's the main reason for considering it. If you can get rid of the squating of the rear suspension under acceleration, it will reduce the torque steer. Firmer shocks/springs will help along with better tires. There is no way around it. We got a very torquey FWD car and we have to deal with it. When the overboost kicks in it is the worst...
The LSD is NOT an easy option add afterwards. It's not impossible, but it would be VERY expensive. It's inside the transaxle. You have to take that appart to install it.
I haven't driven an MCS without LSD, but my MCS with LSD still pulls to the right. That's called torque steer. It's the torque of the engine trying to steer the vehicle in that direction.
It does help greatly with getting the power to the ground.
