Alta short Stub Antenna

I bought an Alta short stub Antenna for my R56. I remember the website telling it will fit 2007 MCS. But when I got it, it wont even fit there. It is just loose. Does any one had a similar problem? what should be done?

did you tighten the threaded stick that came on the antenna before you put it on?

They probably sent you (or you ordered) one for an R53 by mistake. My 2" Alta fits my R56 perfectly.

Is there a difference in the antenna between a Nav equipped mini and a non Nav?

Whew, I was thinking about getting a shorty for my Mini (when I get it freaking ordered!) and some site said it wouldn't fit if I had Nav. Thanks for the clarification

I opted for the 4", and have not noticed a loss of reception, but I live in the big part of the city, so I likely wouldn't notice anyway.

I was wondering about this today and am wanting to get a shorter antenna because of using the roof rack on my R56. (I'm picking up the car next Sat so can't measure anything yet.) Wondering if a 4" antenna would still get in the way of the rack or would it be okay? Have folks noticed any reception difference between the 4" and 2" Alta antenna? I also noticed the Cravenspeed antenna in the NAM reviews section.

If the stock antenna doesn't get in the way of the roof rack, neither will any replacement antenna.

Now that I've taken some pics, the shorty antennas are definitely the way to go! If not for the small "Alta" logo, it looks like it could have come from the factory this way

Thanks for the picture, gjshu. So is that a 4" or 2" antenna you have there on your Mini? And have you noticed any difference in your reception since switching out the stock antenna with the Alta?

4", and I haven't noticed any loss in reception. It's been quite good, actually.

Does the short antenna effect the reception of HD radio or Sirius?

Thanks,
Dale

Not that I have noticed. I drive my R56 from urban to rural and back in my commute each day. Not noticed any issue with the FM. The Sirius goes through a separate circuit and doesn't use the mast for a signal.

Hope that helps!

Hi there!

There are 2 different types of Alta antennas for the R56.

One for the mini with the external antenna, wich comes with sat nav and factory bluetooth, and one fot the Mini wich doesn't have any of these items.

You should have the one wich has the smaller end that ataches to the antenna base.

You should get the other one.

I just bought the 4" Alta stubby, and it's working beautifully with my FM, Sirius, as well as NAV. No loss of reception at all.
