Can I buy an OEM auto dimming rear view mirror? I should of bought it when I ordered the car but forgot, does anyone know if they sell these at the local mini dealers?

 

Not sure if MINI will sell them but you should be able to find one aftermarket.

Do you have the back window tinted? That should help also....

 

Look on Ebay. The salvage dealers could get one.

 

There are lots of places to buy auto dimming mirrors. You can also get them with a built in compass and thermometer. Doing an internet search netted quite a few places that sell them. In most cases you will need to remove the big stem that comes down from the roof and attach the mirror to the windshield, but there may be some that allow you to use the stock stem.

 

If you want the MINI original I'm sure MINI will sell it to you. It won't come cheap. The aftermarket versions are usually about $200. My experience is the standard flip mirror is far better. The auto dimming mirror in my wife's Subaru was great when new, but stopped working after about 4 years and I wound up replacing it with a standard flip up mirror any way.

You can get a nice aftermarket unit at AutoAnything.com. It'll probably be half the cost of the factory unit and it'll function similarly (it may not lighten when you switch into reverse, but I'm not sure if the OEM unit does on the Mini anyway).
