Would someone be kind enough to run out to the garage with a tape measure and measure the interior fore-and-aft and port-to-starboard dimensions of the hatch area of your R56 with both rear seats folded? I would be forever in your debt (and I'll give you a ride in my new Laser Blue beauty when I pick her up).

For transporting my dogs, I want to put a dog bed in the hatchback area, with both seats down. No dogs/dog hair on the seats--those are for human butts. I'd like to get a dog bed that pretty much fills the entire space to keep the little beasts safely in one place without crashing around while I test the limits of those 17 inch tires. I haven't been able to find both measurements, though. I think I've seen the side-to-side measurement, but definitely have not seen the front to rear measurement--the distance from just inside the boot to the backs of the front seats.

Roughly 40" long by 36-38" wide. But it is sort of tapered to the rear. Hope this helps.
